The Songs of the Stars

“Hoomans used to believe that the planets and stars in the sky were alive. Since the distances are so far, they would sing to each other instead.”
— Erisha

The Song of the Stars is the largest and most popular religious belief of the hoomans.

Cosmology

Stars and their songs

Hoomans believe that the stars are extremely powerful beings that brought life to the planets and that they watch over them. In turn, some planets gave the gift of life to the creatures that live on them.   Hoomans also believe that because of the long distances between them, the stars sing to each other. There are specific Star Signs that hoomans are assigned under at birth, which decides how a Hooman is going to live if they are born under it.

Planets

While believers don't discuss the planets as much, their status is still extremely important (Especially the one that they live on). Looking after the planet and its environment is seen as a form of deep respect.
  Hoomans are expected to:
  • Not be wasteful, to use in the most efficient way
  • Disposing of rubbish properly so that it does the least amount of damage to the environment, preferably none.
  • Polluting the land is extremely frowned upon since while it also poses a danger to hoomans, it's also an insult to the planet itself.
Hoomans can also develop a very strong form of homesickness when leaving their planet.

Origin of the Hoomans

The origin location of the Hoomans is believed to be from The Carved Valley on Homeworld. It is said that the first hoomans had been sent down from the stars and landed there, crawling out of the dirt.

Structure

Leader

Traditionally the Leader of the Hoomans is also in charge of the overall running of the The Songs of the Stars, being the one to make final decisions on things. They are also required to attend important ceremonies.
On Homeworld this is still the way that things are run, however on Saeta the importance of the Leader being involved has toned down, and on Nasgovia it is not necessary at all.

Oracle

The Oracle is arguably the most important role and the most hands-on regarding the running of The Songs of the Stars. They are in charge of organising ceremonies, writing and reading from the stars, keeping the observatories up to scratch and essentially the face of the religious group.
The Oracle is also seen as an advisor to the Leader and could be considered the second-in-command.
On Nasgovia, the status of Oracle was removed by Damari as they didn’t see the need for it.

Priests

Priests are usually Hoomans that are trained to become Oracles but weren't picked by the Leader. Instead, they take on duties that the chosen Oracle gives them.
Priests have different importance on Nasgovia since it is more of a work occupation instead due to the status of Oracle being removed. While there is a demand for someone to organise and carry out religious activities, there will still be a demand for priests.

Other Beliefs

Star Spawn

The faithful believe there are certain hoomans that are actually incarnations of the stars, also called Star Spawn (or dimensional beings). They believe that these hoomans are blessed with extraordinary abilities.

5th Dimension
6th Dimension Probability

The Void

The Void is a location that is devoid the light and warmth of the stars. Hoomans believe it is where the deceased go if they've done horrible things in their lifetime to the point where the stars refuse to look at them anymore.

The Abyss

The Abyss is a subset of the Void, which Hoomans believe the deceased go if they've done atrocious things in their lifetime, to the point where the stars believed that they have to be punished. There has been discussion on whether the Abyss is alive in a similar way to the stars, but believers think that is a blasphemous way of thinking.
