The Carved Valley Building / Landmark in Hoomanland | World Anvil

The Carved Valley

The Carved Valley is a large complex that is said to be the origin place of where the Hoomans came from. It is built in a large valley in the west on Homeworld. It is one of the oldest known structures on Homeworld, and is under protection by The Songs of the Stars.   During the Pink Blight Epidemic, it is closed to the public due to it's location outside of the CityState. A few dedicated hoomans have chosen to take the risk of the disease in order to preserve the monument's condition.

Purpose / Function

Due to how old the first structure is, it is unclear what the original purpose was, but over time it has had many uses from the homeworld hoomans including:
  • Place of Worship
  • Protection
  • Knowledge Archive
  • Marketplace
  • Living Space

Alterations

Over the centuries, The Carved Valley has been kept in various states of preservation and has slowly increased in size to become as large as most of the valley itself as more rooms have been updated and added. The most recent addition began construction in 70 AC.

Architecture

The Carved Valley (as it's current namesake) is completely carved out from the surrounding land and consists of a large complex of buildings and rooms. The quality and design of the structures differs the further out the buildings go from the first construction.

The First Structure

While the majority of the original structures are in ruins, the main centrepiece of the valley is a large ancient spherical stone. Historians believe that it was placed there for worship to the star that Homeworld orbits. There are numerous writings and carvings on the stone, but most of it is unintelligible. There are also two smaller (though still very large) stones that are believed to also represent the two moons.

The Wall of Names

Sometime during the last few centuries, the hoomans of that time had began to write their names and messages in one of the larger rooms (Previously being one of the marketplaces). It is said that it started off as graffiti, however grew into a tradition for hoomans to write their names there. The caretakers only tolerate it to ensure that people don't attempt to deface any other places in the valley.

Tourism

Before the occurrence of the Pink Blight in 40 AC, The Carved Valley was extremely popular for hoomans to visit, as it was usually encouraged to visit at least once in your lifetime. It is said for many to be an enlightening experience, for others an existential crisis.
