Once the paranormal became public knowledge and Vigilant went public, debate went around on whether or not Magi should even be allowed. Though some see them as a necessity and to a few a dream come true, but the rest however questioned about why they even existed, should a profession capable manipulating the laws of physics be even allowed, or it just goes against some peoples beliefs.

History

Magi on any world have existed since the first intelligent species began to roam on the planet. According to some reports held by Vigilant and the Arcane Institute, the first human to learn how to perform magic was self taught after managing to copy the movements of deities and as later properly taught by Celestials sometime after the Lost Age. When they first appeared they were revered as beings closest to the gods and were heads of government, but as time when on humanity grew to fear those with that kind of power or they just didn't fully understand how their powers work they were cast out and hunted out of fear. Magi afterwards went into hiding to avoid the manhunts, while also trying to further power and research to better help society, hoping it might better boost their standings.

In the 1800's during the foundation of Vigilant, when a rise of angry paranormal creatures became restless due to humanity moving into their territories, Vigil thought that enlisting those who have an understanding of magic would be the best method against them. Seeing the potential Magi have and can do, they were recruited as important soldiers and help speed up development for the science and medical field in the Americans. Though they were heavily regulated since they could be considered overpower by most and if left unchecked could potentially be a bigger threat.

Around 1905, it became pretty clear that there wasn't enough people practicing magic these days, so to add more Magi to the ranks Vigil creates the Arcane Institute to boost their numbers. However, not everyone can successfully perform magic so few who attend the school that had no connection to bloodline of magic users actually become Magi. The Institute however to this day still manages to produce prominent Magi for the modern day.

Operations

Tools

Most would carry an object to maintain the flow of aether that allows them to manipulate and perform magic better and more efficiently. These objects consist of items such as wands, grimoire, staffs, dragon pearls or they can just carry a bag of all the needed ingredients to perform particular reactions. However, there are some whose soul and those born as beings of pure aether like the Deities who can freely mess with the aether on there own.

Workplace

Most researchers would have their own workshops and warehouses scattered all over the planet or stationed at the Arcane Institute.
