Malik Mendlock

It was like a cast iron wood stove, but much much bigger. Talanis watched as his fellow paladins throw torches at the feet of wooden houses and built a stack of leaves and wood next to them to help the fire catch. Usually, for a thirty years old paladin, this site wouldn't astonish them. But he joined recently after his wife died and he could not watch his daughter eyes anymore. He curses the day he chose to call his daughter after her mother, Bela. Bela for pretty little thing. So pretty...so tiny. It was then that he heard a voice familiar, a cry that woke him every night. A wee baby. He rushed into whence the voice came. In one rooted house, made within a still living tree, that is about to be burned down. He found him, a tot, white-haired and yet to grow more than a comb and a few teeth, he might be teething, and he might be smelling the smoke, or it might be that both his parents are dead at this side.
"Stop!" Talanis rouse his voice at his equal.
"Why you are crying Talanis? found you to be much more of a man I did"
"Leave the child in this bed, he is a little more than a baby leave him be!"
"Why this delinquent? he will grow up to bring sin upon Highrune, you are from senex you saw what it is like Talanis, leave him-"
"Put your sword back at its shaft" Talanis took small steps getting closer to his companion
"Talanis this is our duty" the child's cires coved the screams as Talanis plunged his sword into the paladin's chest throw an opening in the shoulder armor.
"You will be fine now, c-come with me, how do you say that in Elven? Dammit Enlil, what have I done?!"
Malik Mendlock was born in the outskirts of Elvenhime, in Rivendell Village. His village was the first to be burned down in Highrune by The Great Church Armies. A Paladin took pity on the toddler and decided to hide him from the church and adopt him.

Adopted by a Human

Talanis Mendlock came home with this baby. His daughter Bela Mendlock , who survived a harsh life running the house keep alone, since age 14. Talanis saw his dead wife in her eyes and left to enlist into the church armies, found it a waste of resources they didn't have. Her father kept assuring her that the church rewards her soldier's handsomely. So Malik lived on the coin made by the church killing his own kind. Bela found the elf who didn't sleep, and was very in love with nature and the animals, "a lady-lad" to put it in her own words. He wouldn't slaughter livestock and wouldn't even touch meat. While working in the field he could go out for an hour just looking at corn or wheat or even worse: grass and flowers.

Education

While his father was campaigning with The Great Church armies, he sent home coins and asked for Bela and him to enlist to the Collage of New Senex for some Education. In there Malik learned about herbal remedies and studied to be a Physician. But more importantly, he learned how to act more like a human. He started to hide the fact he doesn't sleep, and he and his sister found a way to dye his white hair into gold, that was more or less common in the north of Highrune. He also attributed his weird ways of life to the fact that he is a north born, and made a big story about how his father adopted him from there when he was young. A northeling wood elf was much less threatening to society at this day then a High Elf from Elvenhime.

The Truth

When Bela and Malik found out about their father keeping elven relics and selling them at the market they were both shocked. Malik blamed Bela and accused her of knowing all along. He then left the house that was built with the money of the church and left his job as a physician understudy at the college of senex.

Living in a Dream

Malik has always "dreamed" about living in the forest. He could see the past lives of his soul belonging strongly to the forest. There he could practice medicine and herbalism without being treated differently. It is there that he found a way to cure animals of nearly any ailment, but time. It is there where he honed his craft as a physician on the bodies of humans who strayed too far off the beaten path. It is there, after forty years that seemed like a dream, that he heard his sister voice again, calling him home. To this day he isn't sure if it was magic or his own intuition, but home he came.

The New-Old Home

Bela and Malik started a clinic together using the house built by blood coins, to help the village. But once Bela died of old age, Malik couldn't stay there, as the people started to speak of the sinner in their mids, and without his sister to vouch for him, he ran away from the church, again. Now he lives in the forest near Everkeep, keeping to himself mostly, but sometimes, if a stranger comes to his house, and he has no insignia of the church, Malik was happy t treat him as he was taught all those years ago.

Life on a Knife

But even then, Malik goodwill didn't see one in return. If it was stupidity or malic, he would never know, but one of the humans he treated told about it to the Ningalian priest, who sent for paladins to scout around the woods. Malik ran away, again, as his house was burned down to ashes. He left east highrune for good, traveling via boat to South Highrune and from the city of Tonash to the Knife Forest, there he found his kind. Elfs who ran away from home but yet didn't want to shelter themselves away from the world in Elvenhime. It wasn't long before they found his skills of healing a necessity in their case. Today he factions as the Elder of the village, but he rather not be referred that way, as Malik find social constructs confusing and unnecessary.

Ok, i reread and noticed things i did not before. Firstly the section labeled adopted by a human could use revision. Several sentences end as if they were edited but not reworked and i think you mean slaughter livestock and worse, not worst. But that's it on grammar. What I'm really wondering is why he blamed Bela for his father's actions, why were his father's actions bad, why has he seemingly forgiven her and decided to go home, what that reunion was like, she probably wasn't expecting him and that's a lot of time to be gone for a human. Hmmm also what happened to his father?

Those have answers on the pages of Bela and His father because those are what happened in their story and not his

That introduction was chilling to say the least. An interesting sort of backdrop to the rest of the article. I like the exploration into his past, and the interactions between he and Bela. There are a few typos here and there that you might want to look at through a reread but other than that it is a solid piece of work.   Some things I would like to see here is similar to what Dylonia had stated. I'd like to have some more specifics on what he brought to the table and what sort of personality he held from all his experiences.   Also something I find helps with articles about characters is quotes from others about him, that external perspective can really help bring this characters sort of draw to life.   Keep it up!

An interesting character I think. I like that he's a physician, you don't see that too often. Have you thought about how being an elf might help him with his job? You said he learned how to cure nearly all ailments, is that with magic? Do elves have natural magics in your world?   I don't see any spelling errors per-say, but your grammar and syntax aren't ideal. It makes reading the middle sections a little difficult. I'm not sure I understand where the conflict comes from between Malik, Bela and Talanis.   Have you thought about what he's been doing for the rest of his life? The article so far really only covers about a hundred years of his life, it seems. We know he's at Everkeep now, but how did he get there? 512 years is a long time.

1, Yes 2. Yes 3. Its animal's Aliments that are not magical in nature. 4. Everkeep is really close to Senex. He left into isolation, I will add what he does sometimes, but the jest of it is that he helps ppl with small problems. And then goes own with his life from this. Like Merry Poppins actually.
