The Tomb
A narrow earth path leads from the town to the Tomb of Hippias. As you approach the tomb you can see that a large man-made barrow has been built into the hill, and that over the centuries the vegetation of the hill and barrow have merged to form a single natural looking mound. Trees and shrubs are growing at the bottom of the mound to the left and right of the earthen path. As you get nearer, two stone walls clearly form a twenty foot wide passage with descending stone steps leading to a pair of double doors, the entrance to the tomb. Looking down the steps you can clearly see that writing has been carved into the doors. |
