The Taverna Building / Landmark in Hellas | World Anvil

The Taverna

The Taverna is a stone building covered in Stucco and decorated with flowers. The roof is made from red tiles and two large bowls of flowers stand by the door. It is the local meeting place for hoplite warriors off duty and the citizens of Pavlopetri.   It is a very clean Taverna, due to the diligence of the barkeep, Mimi, a satyr who came to town a few years ago.   There are several tables and chairs, a fireplace that always seems to be roasting some animal whatever the time of a day, and a bar with several mugs and bottles upon it.   The Taverna sells many fine wines and beers from all over Hellas, and the local mead. Behind the bar are many amphora filled with wine and beer, sacks of food and fresh vegetables and fruits.   There is always a jovial, festive atmosphere lead by Mimi who loves to play her pipes for the enjoyment of all.     Mimi

Rumours of Pavlopetri   Talking to the citizens and low ranking Hoplites in town can reveal the following information.
  • Kyros the Harmost (military governor), is slowly going mad, he is visited by apparitions who torment him every night.
  • Kyros is offering a reward of 250 gold staters to anyone who will investigate the tomb and end his nightmares.
  • Phoebe is the wisest citizen in Laconia, people come from as far away as Sparta to see the oracle so she can give them her guidance, and interpret their omens.
  • Phoebe is the wisest and most knowledgeable person in Pavlopetri, she can tell you all about the history of the town, and the world.
  • Kyros is acting erratically, many in town fear for their lives because of the strange orders he is issuing.
  • Melita is captain of the hoplites in Pavlopetri, she is the only person who Kyros will listen to.
  • If you want the best fishing, go to the ponds in the Tsironi wood.
  • Hippias is the hero of Pavlopetri, he built the town, battled the Tritons, and killed their king in single combat.
  • The tomb of Hippias is cursed. No one dare enter, as those who did have never been seen again.
  • Ramose the Egyptian is the finest gladiator in all of Hellas, and he fights in our arena.
  • Entering these ancient Mycenaean tombs is dangerous, I heard they used to trap their tombs to deter robbers.
  • It is said that Hippias was buried with a fortune in gems and gold, and his magical weapons and armour.
  • If you want to know anything about Pavlopetri, visit Mimi in the taverna, she knows all the gossip, and even a secret or two.
