Room 1
The double doors open into a large circular room 60 feet in diameter and some 60 feet tall. The walls of this room have been covered in stucco and are awash with colour as vibrant paintings of the deeds and myths of the goddess Nike are displayed all around. In the centre of the room is a huge 20 feet tall bronze statue of the goddess which gleams in what little light is coming through the open doors. The statue stands on a plinth and depicts Nike in her aspect as the winged goddess of victory. She is wearing hoplite armour and hoplon shield, a spear is held in her right hand, and her bronze wings stretch out behind her. The stone floor is covered in dust, but there appears to be no dust on the likeness of the goddess. Three stone doors similar to the entrance doors are situated to right and left of you and opposite the entrance. They are closed and don't appear to have any carvings on them. |
As you are about to leave the tomb you hear the deafening sound of metal grating against metal. Slowly you realise that the statue of the goddess is moving, first the head moves slightly, then the arms and legs. The statue takes up an offensive stance and with a loud clang of metal against stone moves towards you. As the bronze statue moves away from the central plinth you hear a loud crash as the plinth gives way and you can see it was covering a large pit in the centre of the room approximately 10 feet across. |
