Gondolad
Government
Gondolad has no independent government though there is an informal town council that meets to discuss and decide village matters. Officially, it is bound by the King's law and is ruled directly by the Duke, though he has never sent a personal representative to the area. In practice, to the extent governing needs to happen it is done by consensus among the population led by the village council and elders.
Defences
The village does, technically, have a village militia but it is poorly equipped and untrained. That said, the general population of the village tends to be a bit above what is normally expected of your typical village peasant due to their hard lifestyle and proximity to the Free Lands.
Industry & Trade
It is a primarily agricultural community dedicated to growing various vegetables and grains. There is some small livestock around but most is for household use rather than commercial exploitation. There is also a small trade business as Gondolad is the last, known settlement prior to entering the Free Lands.
Infrastructure
The town is centered around a central windmill with a few communal buildings clustered around it. Surrounding this are various isolated farmsteads that make up the total township.
History
Gondolad was founded roughly forty years ago by trailblazing pioneers and Freelander Folk that remained following the Great Northern War that wanted to venture north beyond the safe boundaries of Myrkan and avoid the otherwise uncomfortable situation of Freelanders living amongst the people with whom they were previously at war. It has grown only slightly since its founding as its proximity to the Free Lands makes it susceptible to Free Lander raiding parties. From an initial population of around 300 it has grown slightly to 500 mostly due to intra-community births rather than new settlers.
The bold frontier spirit still heavily permeates the culture in the village and people there pride themselves on their self-sufficiency and freedom loving nature.
