Gwalan Valley

The Gwalan Valley is a lush region of lakes, forests, and abundant plains in the Northern Sunekan heartlands. It is a land of periodic flooding, as the mountain snow of the Adira Mountains floods the Tanarat River every spring. Other "spring rivers" are common in Gwalan as well, particularly along the Northern plains. This flooding feeds the many tiny lakes and ponds the dot the landscape. This creates a patchwork of forests that enrich and divide the open plains of the North and South.

Geography

The Gwalan Valley is 500 miles long and 310 miles wide. Seven massive freshwater lakes line the inside of the valley, the largest of which is the 108-mile-long Lake Ezoto in the South-center. Each of these lakes is dotted with hundreds of tiny islands that form tiny garden atolls. These lakes generate a belt of dense humid forest through the center of the valley, with plains on either side.    Three mountain ranges box in the valley: the Yutara in the East, the Unepet in the West, and the Karado in the Northwest.

Fauna & Flora

The Gwalan valley is home to a wide variety of animals. Gazelle, deer, buffalo, antelope, and wild horses all roam the plains. Small elephants have been introduced to the forests, where they live in small mostly-domesticated herds. Mountain lions are common, and some lions even still prowl the plains. Small freshwater crocodile live in the swamp, and the lakes are home to a wide variety of unique fauna: freshwater dolphins, shrimp, massive catfish, and a unique subvariety of fast-swimming freshwater Giant Lobster.

Natural Resources

The Gwalan Valley is rich with the greatest natural resource of all: arable land with a climate that can grow food and spices. But aside from that, it is also rich with lumber in its forests, meats and hides on the plains, and mineral wealth in the mountains. The Yutara mountains in particularly are hyper-rich with iron, copper, and tin. The Karado mountains, meanwhile, are famously gold rich.
