Giant Lobster

Giant Lobsters are a worldwide cornerstone of food, culture, and natural ecosystems. They were created long before written memory, many thousands of years ago by The Masked One and are basically what they say on the tin: really big lobsters.   These behemoths come in two varieties: freshwater and saltwater. Freshwater giant lobsters are dog-sized, around knee-height. These lobsters are a major source of foodstuffs for river culture around the world. Selective breeding around the world has encouraged their social side, creating large social pods that lobsterherds watch over. These lobsters are versatile heavy lifters and are often employed as pack animals or beasts of burden when they start to grow larger and older.   Saltwater giant lobsters are another story. Thriving in brackish water where rivers meet the sea, saltwater lobsters are the size of elephants. While not exactly aggressive, they can be extremely dangerous when lashing out, and are treated with far greater caution by most mortal societies. Saltwater giant lobsters are hunted in some places, but are used for transportation or even war in other areas.   Desmia has a unique subtype of both lobsters: Blood Lobsters. The lobsters were long ago cursed by The Masked One here to be blood-red and unusually aggressive. Desmians have responded by re-introducing more docile breeds and weaponizing the Blood Lobsters as weapons of war. Unusually fast and relentless, Freshwater Hunting Lobsters and massive Titan Lobsters can be found here.   Some other places have dabbled in specialized lobster breeding- most spectacularly, in Stildane, where Ederstone exposure has led to immense ecodiversity among the lobster populations.
