Myghtlebacht

"The Red Overseer..."

The Red Overseer Myghtlebacht (a.k.a. "The Red Eye")

"They... they came from over Ferry Hill. From the wide open plains. One moment they was clear, the next... red banners, war banners. They came on like thieves in the night. Our scouts never even saw them. What sort of fell magic does that? Hides an army? We never stood a chance."
  • Henron Allmore, First Lieutenant, Crown Light Brigade 2nd Division (no longer active)

"It was terrifying an' all. But t'wasn't the waves of Isagorn that chilled my bones. It was their leader. Right at the vanguard he was. Taller 'an any Isagorn I ever seen before. And his eyes. Even from a league I could see em. Red eyes. Glowin eyes. Eyes that hungered. But for what?
  • Johan Benniat, Sole surviving lancer, Freemantle Militia (at the Battle of Tenford)

Red Overseer of the Gnashing Teeth

Little is known of the charismatic leader of The Isagorn (Hobgoblins) horde of "The Gnashing Teeth." He seems to have cropped up from out of nowhere, along with his 2,000 strong army of violent goblinoids. The official statement from Lord Shimeg Rothra of the forces of Narfell is that this "pretender king has no connection to our lands or peoples, and is as much an enemy to Baragrast, as he is to the Crown and peoples of Wyeth."   Until recently, the Gnashing Teeth had been hiding their true numbers, merely ambushing supply lines along the eastern portion of the Sunlit Vale and the Thaw. Basically the lands between Narfell and The Barony of Rocha. But the raids have turned to skirmishes after the Crown dispatched their elite knights of "The Spear" to deal with the growing menace, and after a decisive battle at Dagorell, it seemed the problem was becoming far greater than previously anticipated.   Where numerically not a match for the crown forces, the Gnashing Teeth makes up for in other areas. First, and more famously, is their usage of magical means of transportation... an army seemingly both appearing and disappearing at will... the instantaneous transport of thousands, along arcane winds.   But the war leaders of Wyeth fear something beyond mere magic tricks. They know those can ultimately be countered. It's not such "parlor tricks" that keep them up at night. No, the warlords fear a kindred mind... one possibly greater than their own...   At the head of the invading army is the one called the Red Overseer. A strong leader with goals and plans unknown to man. One willing to risk everything to achieve his mysterious ends. This is what strikes fear in hardened warriors. That he's never lost a battle begets legends and also contributes to the rampant fear recently grasping hold of the region.   What does he want? What are his ends?   Little is known of the Red Overseer. His given name is Myghtlebacht, and he hails from no known Isagorn band or tribe. He claims no lands, states no objectives or demands. Many think he is secretly in league with (or actually under the employ of) the Lord of Narfell, but this might just be the superstitions of a peoples still paranoid about a goblinoid invasion from the north. But, it is clear that Narfell's supply lines have also been hit by Myghtlebacht.   Is Myghtlebacht even actually of Isagorn heritage? He stands far taller than any other known hobgoblins. His warriors boast that he has the "blood of dragons" in his veins. Could he be partially dragonkin, such as the Dragonborn? One would need to get much closer than he'll allow to find out.

    CURRENT LOCATION

None seem to know where Myghtlebacht garrisons his army between raids. Are they using the Underdark as a staging area? Have they taken one of the many ruins of Lumeria as their hold? As frightening as any of these thoughts are, of greatest concern to the crown are rumors that perhaps the "Gnashing Teeth" are being supported by an enemy of Wyeth... one within the west. Perhaps one of the disgruntled city-states "subjugated" by the "Restoration of the Crown." Are Baron Navac the 3rd's ambitions finally getting the best of his better judgement?
