South Lautney
South Lautney is the other half of North Lautney, and second to it in both area and importance. Its largest city is Carnmara, with South Craigden as another crucial port.
Its rule is split between three High Clans: the Greengale Clan, the Daymarch Clan, and the Ironwood Clan.
Geography
A sheer cliff forms the north shore of South Lautney, slicing through the northern edge of the ancient, time-worn Green Mountains. Their rolling, tree-filled hills fade to the grassy dales where sheep graze. Further south, farmlands emerge, with creeks and rivers criss-crossing the landscape. The sharp peaks of the Ridge Mountains jut into the skies, an arc of man-made mountains, the southern edges beaten by the ocean.Natural Resources
In the north, governed by the Greengales, the Green Mountains are a primary source of wood and stone for Crathlia. Sheep are also grazed along the Green Mountains' foothills. The middle region, governed by the Daymarches, possesses much fertile land that is used to grow potatoes, grain, barley, oats, and other staple crops, similar to the crops of the Duchy of Evenbrook in North Lautney, which was once the other side of the Green Mountains and thus similar in geography. Cattle and sheep are grazed on the less-fertile lands. When the Ridge Mountains were formed, they unearthed many resources that would have otherwise been buried deep underground. Metals, stone, oil deposits, and fossils are plentiful there, and the Ironwoods have long profited from that wealth.History
While some of High Lord Seanán's wives were certainly taken from Southern Inis na Elathán, the southern half of the island was not truly colonized until the Colony's eighty-second year, when Éimhín headed the second living compound in the modern-day Ridge Mountains (which, of course, did not exist at the time). During High Lord Flaithrí's rule, Inis na Elathán was split down the middle and thus South Lautney was born. But this wasn't the last time the landscape of the island would be forever altered by mortal hands. During the Crathlian Revolution, young leaders Alden Ó Flaithrí and Móirín Ó Ciardha destroyed the second living compound in the first convergence, creating the newborn Ridge Mountains. After the revolution, the Alderley Clan's conquest of South Lautney would take over a hundred years and a union with another royal clan, but eventually the island would be subject to the kings and queens of Crathlia.Duchies
Today, South Lautney is ruled by three High Clans. Formerly centered at the Green Mountains, the Greengale Clan's borders once included Midland, but the Evenbrook Clan pushed them south. Finding it more important to hold South Craigden, they expanded southward instead to their present borders. The Daymarch Clan holds the fertile lowland region between the Green Mountains and the Ridge Mountains. These borders have been contested during times of weakness, but have largely remained consistent since the clan's rise to power. The Ironwood Clan has held the Ridge Mountains (a formidable barrier to be sure) and Carnmara since its early years.Counties
