Personal history
Elpis and Moros, twin daughters and youngest offspring of the divine Steward Huichi and the mortal Nakhasi woman Syla. They were born as a single entity, whose name has been lost, but later split into their two current separate forms. They embody the delicate balance between hope and doom, two forces eternally intertwined in the fate of Alathor. Their existence represents both the promise of new beginnings and the inevitable end of all things.
Their story begins with tragedy. As the result of Huichi-2's union with Syla, their lives were marked from the start by danger and betrayal. Their Mother, Syla, feared for the safety of her divine children. Mok Kar, Syla's mortal husband, believed the children were his and sought to manipulate their power for his own gain. When Syla revealed the truth of their parentage, it set off a chain of violent events that left her dead at Mok Kar's hands, followed by Mok Tun, their eldest brother, killing Mok Kar in vengeance.
Fearing for their safety, Isoko-2 took the Twins, along with their siblings, into hiding. There, under the watchful eye of their aunt, they were trained and nurtured, but their bond was already fraying under the weight of their destinies.
Elpis and Moros eventually split into two distinct beings after a particularly stressful episode. This metaphysical fracture embodied the dichotomy of their natures—Elpis became the personification of Hope, while Moros represented Despair. Although they remained sisters, their fates became increasingly opposed. In moments of great upheaval, and their appearance itself would change to reflect the state of the world.
When the forces of hope and despair are in balance, Elpis and Moros appear as two young, grown women with an ethereal and ageless beauty, representing the delicate equilibrium of existence. However, when the balance shifts, their appearances follow suit. Should hope dominate, Elpis grows younger, glowing with the optimism of fresh possibilities and childlike optimism and wonder, while Moros takes on the visage of an older, wearied woman, as despair recedes into the background. Conversely, when doom and despair overwhelm the world, Moros becomes youthful and vital, bratty, pessimistic and mean-spirited, while Elpis appears haggard and aged, reflecting the dwindling light of hope.
Despite their divergent natures, the Twins are inextricably linked. One cannot exist without the other, and their influence over Alathor is deeply felt in the hearts of mortals and gods alike. As agents of fate, their actions shape the very course of history, with Elpis inspiring hope in times of darkness and Moros bringing the shadow of inevitable end to moments of false hope.
Their relationship is complicated, filled with both love and rivalry. In the rare moments when they are in perfect harmony, they represent a complete cycle—hope leading to despair, and despair birthing new hope. However, when their harmony is disrupted, the world itself suffers as the balance between creation and destruction teeters on the edge of collapse.
Throughout history, the Twins have played pivotal roles in the rise and fall of kingdoms, the forging of destinies, and the turning points of countless battles. Mortals often pray to Elpis in their darkest hours, while others, resigned to their fate, whisper to Moros for acceptance of the inevitable end.
The Twins' legacy is one of duality—where there is hope, doom is never far behind, and where there is despair, hope still lingers, waiting to rise once more.
