Kartakass

Kartakass is a Domain of Dread previously ruled by the Dark Lord Harkon Lukas.

Campaign Recap

In the early morning hours of 28 Mirtul, Collateral Damage entered a shadow crossing within Mountain's Toe Gold Mine to enter Kartakass. Their goal in doing so was to find and kill the loup garou, the alpha werewolf who originated the strain of lycanthropy contracted by Shinzon Greenshadow and Smōk.

The Wildersung Wood

After stepping through the shadow crossing, Collateral Damage entered a pitch black forest. Those with darkvision could see tall trees surrounding them, but heavy mist hung in every direction. Fog dampened sound and limited their sight to a mere three paces. They also felt that they were in a different climate. It was warmer than back in the gold mine in the foothills of the Sword Mountains.

Above all else, what stood out most was what they could hear. The faint sound of music was audible, but it wasn't from one direction. It seemed to be all around them, from every direction. Songbirds sung in the trees above them. Every once in a while, they could also hear wolves howl and other animals join in a strangely haunting melody that was somehow right in tune with instruments like violins and lutes coming from an undetermined location. Every now and then, they heard whispers from the trees themselves and of the domain itself singing a shanty. They could hear the opening lyrics of the song, but each time they trailed off at the end.

"Sing of the trees.
Give voice to the breeze.
Stave off the gloom of doom.

"While the wise sing their song,
Guilty necks stretch long,
And..."

Wolves Attack!

Collateral Damage, without the ability to see far in any direction, started traveling toward the sound of rushing water. After some time, the group was attacked by a pack of wolves, some of whom howled an enchanting melody that lured some of the party in their direction. The wolves seemed to target Herb Stoner and Amethyst Mountainbender specifically, the two group members who had not yet been infected by lycanthropy.

The adventurers survived the wolf attack, but Herb was snatched up by a gloomstalker who tried to fly away. Smōk fired a guiding bolt at the gloomstalker and killed it, saving Herb from being flown into the darkness.

Don-Jon Is Here?

After recovering from the wolf attack, Collateral Damage continued traveling toward the sound of water. Eventually they found a trail, and then traveling up from behind them on the trail was a familiar face, Don-Jon Raskin.

Don-Jon explained that he had been in Kartakass with his great grandfather Harkon Lukas in a town called Skald. Don-Jon showed them a map of Kartakass that he had with him, and he offered to lead them back to the inn that his great grandfather owned.

Localized Phenomena

During normal times, the outline of a full moon is visible in the night sky, but it's covered by thick clouds. The moon stays in one spot.

During "moontime," the full moon appears through the clouds, eventually revealing itself to be an ancient lunar dragon. The lunar dragon swoops down and flies through the night sky, transforming any new lycanthropes into their hybrid forms automatically. When the dragon flies back up above the clouds, "moontime" is over.

Kartakan residents measure time in "moons" instead of days. It's always night, which is sometimes interrupted by moontime. The length of time between moons varies, and Kartakans seem to have grown accustomed to this way of life.
