Kiol Downs

The Kiol Downs is a large region of hills and valleys in south-central Gol-Kasha. It is bordered to the north by the Arit Forest, the east by the Plains of Pesht, and the west by Lake Dvor.

Geography

The Kiol Downs are a region of rolling hills, believed to be the remnants of ancient mountains that have undergone errosion, that once formed the furthest extent of the Grumbull Mountains in the Southern Stretches. The Downs are littered with small ravines and crags which snake through the region creating small temporary streams and tributaties during high rains and from snowmelt, but dry up quickly.

Fauna & Flora

The Kiol Downs are currently infested with Ankravs, gigantic horse-sized termite-like insects which despoil the landscape around their hives. One such hive, surely housing a Hive Mother, is forming in the centre of the Downs.

History

The Kiol Downs are to a predominantly — but not solely — Halfling branch of the Borenae culture. The folk of the Downs are de jure subjects of the Duchy of Gol-Kasha, but have historically enjoyed a degree of political and religious freedom in exchange for harsher taxes on grain. Additionally, the region is believed to be inhabited by a reclusive group known as the Kioldaw, though their existence is disputed.
