Githind Swamp
The Githind Swamp is a large region of wetlands — including fens, marshes, and swamps — in central Gol-Kasha. It is bordered to the east by the Wilds of Neshtu, the south by the Plains of Pesht and Arit Forest, the west by the Wall of Verzit, and north by the Juterii Ranges.
The Githind Swamp has a curious tendancy to spread, an ecological mystery which appears to be more intelligent than a merely encroaching wetland run-off from the mountains to the north. Indeed, several attempts in ancient days were made to actively thwart its advance, though folktales are unclear if this was done via magic, force of arms, or divine pleas. One tale tells of an old Duke constructing a fortress to hold back the swamp.
Geography
The Githind is primarily a peat-rich marshland in its eastern reaches, and a vegetation-dense swamp in its central and western areas. The majority of the Githind is below sea level, with the karst formation of the Plains of Pesht to the south utterly collapsing due to the ground water supplied by Lake Dvor and the Varsa River which begins in the eastern limits of the Juterii Ranges, and flows through to the Wilds of Neshtu.
Ecosystem
Little is known of the ecology of the Githind Swamp, as it is incredibly hostile to exploration, given it is covered in sucking mud and foul disease-ridden mosquitos. It is known that Boggards, a species of humanoid frog-like creatures, have infiltrated the region.
History
In recent times, Arnott Aquila, Belgar Ashbrow, Chess, and Doriatabular Drithovich of the Scofflaws' Guild have discovered Boggards performing strange rites on standing stone menhirs within the Githind. Who built these menhirs, what their purpose is, and what the Boggards intend to do with them all remain a mystery. Furtermore, a massive ruined castle built on the edge of the Varsa has been found, the origins and destruction of which is also unknown.
