Scofflaws' Guild Organization in Glüm | World Anvil

Scofflaws' Guild

The Scofflaws' Guild is an ancient loose cellular organisation found all across Glüm, believed to have been founded by its patron God the Lord of Bridges & Baubles Themself. Members of the Scofflaws' Guild — each of whom is known as a Scofflaw — are "legal outlaws," having signed away their rights to legal protection in return for the right to avoid legal prosecution, allowing them to perform duties which would otherwise be illegal. These protections — or lack thereof — do not make the Scofflaws immune, but rather make them truly outside the law.

Structure

The Guild lacks any formal heirarchy, acting more as an anarchist syndicate. Furthermore, there is no centralised body that governs the various chapters of the Guild, with each individual Guild acting as an independant but loosely aligned organisation.   The Scofflaws' Guild of Gol-Kasha is represented — but importantly not lead — by Florin Fort-Escu, with "Master" Kronklin acting as its lorekeeper and secretary.

Culture

The Scofflaws do not have a unified creed, though they generally encourage the building of connections between disparate and isolated communities, as well as the discovery of new realms, and the resolution of threats to non-Scofflaw innocents.

Assets

The Scofflaws' Guild has numerous artifacts within its keeping which are given out to members as need arises and merit dictates. Among these are the Rainbow Brooches — a set of magically attuned jewelery given for special commendations — and the Scofflaws' Ring — a symbol of membership, and a magical tether between party members and their base of operations within a region.

Divine Origins

It is believed that the Scofflaws' Guild was founded by the Lord of Bridges & Baubles after Madam Midnight created the Refrain and Sustain during the Disjunction, thus allowing mortals to form static communities on Harmony. The Lord of Bridges & Baubles saw this as a risk to mortals, for if they stopped wandering they would soon lose sight of the fact that they were all one people and thus interconnected and reliant on one another. However, the other Gods disagreed, and laid down the laws of how they should tamper with the world, hoping to curtail the Lord of Bridges & Baubles. Ultimately, the Lord disregarded these laws, and began wandering all of Creation, whilst encouraging mortals to do the same.
