Duchy of Gol-Kasha
The Duchy of Gol-Kasha is an autonymous political entity in the north-west of Syvat, occupying and controlling the majority of the region of Gol-Kasha. The current ruler of the duchy is Duke Andrei II of House Albescu, often called the "Shadeless Lord."
Structure
Though principally ruled by House Albescu, the territory and administration of the duchy is divided along feudal lines between multiple noble houses with varying degrees of autonomy. The following are the current landed noble houses, their principal holdings, their seat of power, and their current house heads:
- House Albescu, the Duchy of Gol-Kasha. The city of Oryova. Duke Andrei II Albescu.
- House Eliade, the March of Eliade. The port-town of Dezgheţ. Marquis Aurelia I Eliade (ruling in absentia via her husband, Darius Eliade née Cobor).
- House Cobor, the County of Cobor. The village of Brvy (ad tempus, since the destruction of Castle Cobor). Count Artur II Cobor.
- House Galca, the Viscounty of Galca. The village of Glod (traditionally per procurationem from the Sanguine Lodge). Viscount Augustin I Galca
- The chartered town of Zhilisky, previously held by a republican council, but now controlled by the Brotherhood of Autumn whom are in open war with the duchy.
- The Judike of Krisset, administrated by Rozalina Stonefork, current Jude of Clan Stonefork.
- And the freehold of Pascha, held under the law of Grumballkind.
History
The Duchy of Gol-Kasha was founded on Glimday, 21st of High-Autumn, 871 BE after the successful invasion of the region by forces from the Vekhen Empire. The territory was originally intended to be an Imperial holding of House Vekhen, though the prime candidate — Bozhura, then sister to Empress Penka III Vekhen — was killed during the Battle of the Bloody Gate. This sparked a short but bloody series of killings among Vekhen nobility — including the slaying of Radko Vekhen, progenitor of the infamous 7th Dynasty by the infant (and later crowned) Mitra I Vekhen — that ultimately threatened to ruin the Vekhen invasion of the region. This instability allowed a sizable amount of Ihmisii refugees to flee the region. To prevent a total waste of the war effort, Empress Penka III installed her leading General — the Human Albe as Warden of the region.
Warden Albe quickly established several forts along the Sli Highlands to prevent reinvasion from the Ihmisii, as well as encouraged an influx of migrants to settle the more fertile areas of the region. Within a generation, and under the rallying of Albe's son Sorin I Albescu, these efforts saw the march begrudgingly converted into a full duchy. From that point onwards, the people of Gol-Kasha began to see themselves as a culture apart, slowly transitioning into the Aomeni people from their Kaharotan roots. Additionally, calls to further seperate from the wider Empire began to gain traction in later generations, ultimately culminating as a full secession in the 310s BE.
