Morghalia

Morghalia is one of the first deities. She entered the universe together with her twin brother Aviro, setting off the Dawn of Gerandia. She was involved in creating the world. As one of The Great Dragons, she is also one of the original Principal Deities.   Morghalia is the embodiment of unnatural life, decay and death. She was instrumental in shaping the negative energy plane, and laid the foundation for the existence of undead. She also created the first Umbral Dragon, Nyndrixal, who would become her divine herald.   She has a longstanding, feud with Greada, who opposes everything Morghalia stands for.

History

Early History
Morghalia was present for the entire creation. As Aviro's twin sister, she entered the Universe together with him, and thus set in motion the events leading to the fight against, and subsequent defeat of, the Darkness   Fascinated with death, and the many ways in which souls could be drained, or corrupted, she created the foundations necessary for necromancy and the existence of undead. Following Rekfas' Betrayal, she used parts of Darag's body to create her divine herald, Nyndrixal, the first Umbral Dragon. This drew the anger of most of the other dragons, but particularly of Greada, who was furious over this desecration of her lovers corpse.   Ever since, the two dragons have been at odds, with Greada opposing Morghalia whenever possible, going out of her way, to put any and every undead she can to rest, permanently.
Dealings with Mortals
Morghalia cares little about mortals or living beings, outside of trying to find ways of corrupting them. She views undead as superior in every way, and as such rarely responds to prayers directly. She does take notice of strong necromancers or liches, often granting them her favour, and blessing their rituals and spells.   Occasionally she'll step onto the material plane during an undead uprising, either to just observe and watch it, or sometimes to help it along, and strenghten it's effects. Her influence is usually subtle enough to go undetected.   Where she goes, she brings disease and accelerated decay with her.

Appearance

Dragon
In her natural form Morghalia is a mostly grey dragon, with the scales fading into a sickly yellow at the base. Parts of her flesh appears to have fallen off, with deep, festering gashes revealing her bones underneath. Her wing spikes are sharp and skeletal, while her wing membrane is torn, often seeming like there's only some fouled flesh still loosely dangling from the wings bones. The left half of her head looks normal, whereas the right half of her head looks partially decomposed.
Humanoid
When appearing to mortals in person, rather than in the form of just manifesting her divine presence, Morghalia usually appears in the shape of a young or middle aged woman, often in a state of decay, varying from very faint, to almost entirely skeletal. She sometimes also appears as a visibly diseased person. Her appearances are usually accompanied by accelerated decay in the area, small animals dying and plants wilting. It's not uncommon for disease to spread from the location of her appearance afterwards.

Personality

Morghalia is calm, cunning and calculated. She views death, and by extension undeath, as the perfect state of natural beauty that everything trends towards, being superior to life in any way. As such she places little to no value on anything living, viewing it instead as flawed and in need of fixing, whereas death is inconsequential, or simply a step towards improvement and perfection.   Despite this, Morghalia is fascinated by the weaknesses of life, such as susceptibility to pain or disease, and she delights in experimenting on these weaknesses, by inflicting pain, or spreading and causing disease.   While not her main motivation, this delight in causing pain, be it mental or physical, guides or influences many of her actions. As such she was fully aware of and enjoyed the agony and emotional pain she caused Greada, when she created Nyndrixal from Darag's body. It influenced her decision, to specifically use Darag's dead body, rather than creating her Herald from nothing, or the negative energy plane directly.

Temples & Shrines
Most societies don't look fondly upon the worship of Morghalia, with a few notable exceptions. In Kegaldia necromancy and by extension worship of Morghalia, while not viewed particularly positively are considered as a normal occurrence, with the general stance being a neutral one. In Isselbar the cultural view is, that necromancy is the most useful school of magic, for military use, and as such is viewed positively. Intelligent undead are considered regular members of society, that have simply found a way to become stronger or more powerful than their fellow countrymen, which is something anyone should strive for. By extension Morghalia is viewed positively, with her temples often times being one of the largest in a city.   Despite the negative view of Morghalia and her followers elsewhere, most places begrudgingly tolerate a limited number of temples in her honour, in order to avoid drawing her ire, potentially provoking her into unleashing an epidemic on the city or country in question. These temples are often smaller, and in less public places, compared to those of other deities. In countries that outlaw necromancy outright, the grounds of any Morghalia Temple form an exception. As such these temples often utilise undead as servants, both out of convenience, as well as to spite the respective city or country, and the relatives of the deceased raised as undead.   Morghalia's priests as well as followers sometimes deliberately infect themselves with dangerous diseases as part of rituals to seek her guidance.
