Qaa Settlement in Gamma World | World Anvil

Qaa

Qaa is the site of the only functioning oil drill in Taebur. As such, the small community effectively controls all oil resources for Taebur. It was founded a little over a century ago, and for most of that time, it was independently run. However, it was recently purchased by Mansen Corporation. The new owners have not yet made any changes to the community's operating procedures, but how long this will remain true remains to be seen.

Demographics

Qaa's small population is almost entirely stock human, though there are a couple of mutants.   Qaa does not see a lot of visitors, mainly just representatives of places and organizations come to purchase oil to make gasoline and other fuels from.

Defences

Qaa is surrounded by a wall with armed guards stationed at look-out posts. The settlement carefully controls who is and isn't allowed inside.

Assets

Oil. This is both a boon and a hindrance to the settlement. The average person in Taebur believes oil to be a substance that was responsible for the wars that destroyed the world. They see people who extract it from the ground as villains who are perpetuating the evils of the Old World. They don't know that the gasoline and other fuels that power their vehicles and machinery come from oil. Groups often gather to attack Qaa, and this is the main reason the settlement is so heavily defended.   However, gasoline is in high demand, and Qaa does a thriving business with places and organizations that understand the value of oil. In patricular, they have a special deal with Ado that gives that community first access to what Qaa produces.
