Ado Settlement in Gamma World | World Anvil

Ado

Sometimes called the "Vehicle Capital of Taebur", Ado is the place to go for vehicles, especially fast ones. Whereas Fastur refurbishes and repairs old vehicles for practical purposes, Ado builds entire new top-of-the-line vehicles, It specializes in sports cars, though it produces vehicles of other kinds as well.   It is one of the richest cities in Taebur with only Rabbit and the City of Cartoons competing in that area. However, like other "rich" cities in Taebur, most of its wealth belongs to a small number of people, generally the heads of the major manufacturing companies. Much of the city is made of slums and more than half the population lives in poverty.   Ado was once part of an Old World metropolis. Most of that city now lies in ruins. Ado sits in what would have been a southern suburb of that city.

Demographics

The majority of people in Ado are human and most of those are stock humans; however, a sizeable number of the richer citizens are pure-strain humans. There are mutants and synthetics spread throughout the population relatively evenly amongst the economic classes, but their numbers are few: about 5% mutants and 0.5% synthetics.

Government

Similar to Rabbit, Ado is run by a council made up of the senior executives of the largest corporations in town. The council appoints a mayor, but this person is just a figurehead, and the council replaces the mayor frequently.

Industry & Trade

Vehicles are Ado's bread and butter. While most of its own citizens can't afford its products, Ado does booming business with other settlements along the White River Region, particularly the City of Cartoons.   Fuel also forms an important part of the town's economy. Ado has long had a special agreement with Qaa giving it first purchase rights to Qaa's oil. This means organizations needing a lot of fuel (including nomadic settlements like the Coop) are heavily reliant on Ado, which can charge exorbitant prices. Ado also has the largest oil refinery plants in Taebur.

Natural Resources

Despite its wealth, Ado has virtually no natural resources of its own. Its reliant on material (such as oil and metal) produced elsewhere. It has become a master at negotiating for these resources. However, if the places that produce these resourses were to start withholding them, Ado's economy would soon start to collapse.
