The Mooncrest

A vast, ever-growing forest in the heart of the Ivorian Heathlands, the Mooncrest Woods are a place of ancient magic, hidden dangers, and deep mystery. The dense canopy filters moonlight through the towering Skyreach Oaks, casting an eerie glow over the forest floor. With its maze-like trails, glowing glades, and tangled undergrowth, the Mooncrest should be respected, home to ancient beings and creatures that resist the encroachment of civilization.

Geography & Climate

The Mooncrest is a sprawling woodland that expands each year, forcing nearby gaulan settlements to maintain a constant effort in cutting back the forest’s rapid growth. This struggle has sparked tension between settlers and the wild creatures that dwell within, as the beasts of the old wood and the lurking horrors of the Undead Acres draw ever closer to the settled lands.   At the heart of the forest, the Red River snakes through the land, its waters feeding the flora and fauna. The Undergrowth of the Mooncrest, a subterranean network of twisting roots and deep caverns, is said to house the oldest beings of the forest, some whispering that it is alive in ways beyond simple growth. The Moonlit Moors, shrouded in mist and illuminated by spectral fireflies, mark the forest’s border. Thornwood Pass, a narrow but well-worn path, serves as one of the few safe routes through the ever-deepening wilds.

Culture & Conflict

The people of the Mooncrest have lived in an uneasy balance with the forest for centuries. Foresters and rangers work tirelessly to hold back the expanding woodlands, but some believe that the Mooncrest does not wish to be tamed. The gaulan House Windslayer, ruling from Arboran, enforces strict regulations on logging and hunting to prevent angering the land.   Among the settlements, druids and shamans perform sacred rites, believing the Mooncrest to be a living entity. In contrast, loggers and settlers see it as an obstacle to progress. Recent years have seen an increase in conflicts with creatures of the deep wood and undead horrors creeping from the Undead Acres. The rangers of The Aerie have taken up arms against the growing threat, but many fear that something ancient has awakened within the Undergrowth of the Mooncrest.
