Stonewashed Row

Stonewashed Row stretches between the crowded lower districts and the guarded ascent toward Hillmarket. Long rows of pale stone housing line the district’s side streets, their whitewashed walls reflecting sunlight brightly enough that the roads almost glow during clear afternoons. Families, tradesmen, and retired soldiers crowd these tightly packed homes, seeking distance from the noise and filth of the lower river wards while remaining close enough to the city’s markets and workshops.
The district’s central road remains one of the busiest in Blackstock. Wagons creak endlessly uphill toward Hillmarket while travellers funnel toward Bronzegate at the district’s northern edge. Yet away from the main thoroughfare, the side streets grow calmer. Laundry hangs between windows, children race along narrow alleys, and neighbours gather beneath covered stoops sharing meals while the sounds of the city rumble somewhere beyond the walls.
The climb toward the upper city is always visible here. Guards patrol more frequently, buildings become sturdier, and the looming gates ahead remind residents exactly where the wealth of Blackstock begins separating itself from the rest below.
