The Knights Night at the Marlin. A semi-regular day held where only members of the Knights of the Wrequeners are served, and all specialty food and drink are discounted heavily for their benefit.
Remes has already served many of the early bird arrivals, and is using the brief lull in new patrons and orders to tidy up the front of the house, greeting every new customer who enters, while telling them of the specials of the day: seared port cod with highland seasoning and seaweed wrapped salmon.
One of the customers, a handsome looking man, sits at one of the tables, unabashedly eating as much as the discount will allow him, although there is a certain properness to it.
At another table, a woman, looking rather standoffish, sits stuffing her face without shame.
A brightmaid look-alike sits at one of the tables tucked away in the corner. He is mostly just hoping that he might go unnoticed and not have to speak to anyone at the moment. He keeps his modified hood up and his head down. The smurfesque look of his skin peeks out in the form of his left hand, intertwined with his other hand, a metal skeletal structure, as he sits, lost in thought.
The handsome man eyes the woman with distaste. How could one eat so messily?
The bone of one of her already eaten drumsticks flies off in her hasty bid to grab more food, which, somehow, manages to hit the brightmaid look-alike in the corner.
Rowan: "Ow shit- fuch- sowwy-"
She says, turning to the man, while speaking with food in her mouth. She wipes her lips and takes a moment to swallow before trying again.
Rowan: "Uh- sorry about that."
The look-alike is having a fine enough time getting lost in his own mind when he feels something solid smack him right in the forehead. His left hand immediately flies up to hold his head.
Kail: "Damnit.....how did you even manage to fling that over here?!".
He doesn't even know who he is talking to, but his annoyance is just the same.
Rowan: "Yeah, uh, that was me. Didn't mean to do that. Dunno how I did that. Sorry tho. Anyway."
She raises a hand as if that is a good enough apology, and goes back to gorging herself.
Kail groans as he looks over in the woman's direction, rubbing his forehead before shaking his head in either disappointment or just, not wanting to deal with it anymore.
Kail: "It's fine. Please just keep your food over there."
Rowan: "No prob, this food is mine n' I paid for it."
Len: "You barely paid for anything."
The man from before snides back, delicately eating his seafood.
Rowan: "Either way. My food."
Kail tries to return to his silence, rubbing his temples.
Kail: "Would you both please just quiet down?"
Len: "And why should we?"
The man responds back.
Rowan: "Mmmnf." The woman murmurs back through food.
Kail shoots a cold glare at the man, not much minding the woman at this point. At least she seems to be trying to be kind. The man on the other hand...
Kail: "Because i asked politely. Don't make me ask again."
Len: "I see no reason to do as you asked. You're not paying me, or offering anything in return."
The tiefling stands to his full height this time, not even taking a moment to contemplate.
Kail: "I asked politely. And Iam more than willing to use a weapon against you"
The barman, Remes, can be heard shouting nonchalantly from behind the bar towards the arguing pair, where he was serving a goliath his food.
Remes: "Not inside my business, you're not!"
Len: "You heard the man. Now shoo."
Len waves his hand back and forth, motioning the man to, at the least, go back to where he was.
Unintentionally, Kail throws an annoyed look over at the barkeep, before turning his attention back over to the man with the 'holier than thou' attitude. He doesn't hesitate to talk over to him, wasting no time.
Kail: "I am nobodies servant, and therefore, will not be obeying you. Treat me as an equal, or fight me, coward."
The man, Len, looks up at Kail with a bored expression.
Len: "I have no interest in fighting. Or being ordered around, unless I get something out of it. I don't care about how you wish to be viewed, and I say that not to incite your,"
He rolls his eyes,
Len: "Righteous anger or whatever you wish to call it, it's simply the truth."
The woman, Rowan, is now chewing more slowly, watching the interaction with rapt attention. Who knew this dinner came with a show?
Kail isn't entirely sure why, but this guy just, angers him beyond words. He doesn't often like to act on impulse, but today is just one of those days.
So without even speaking again or giving a warning, he immediately throws a punch with his prosthetic arm, not even thinking.
The strike hits unexpectedly hard, throwing Len's head back with the force.
Len sits up and cups his bruised cheek, glaring daggers at the other man, gritting his sharp, pointed teeth, which seemed to glint menacingly in the light.
Len: "Why you..."
Len growls out, and begins whispering something sinister sounding under his breath.
In the background, Rowan can be heard chanting
Rowan: "Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!"
Kail raises an eyebrow at the man sitting in front of him, almost wanting to laugh for once. He's never hit someone that hard, and it is a little satisfying to finally stand up to someone.
Kail: "The hell are you even saying.....If you're trying to curse me, good luck with that. Now please, keep it down and i won’t have to hit you again."
Len: "You would like a curse? Well, have this then, you foul-tempered, barbaric, sorry excuse of a sentient being!"
Rowan is still cheering in the background, having grabbed more food to eat while she watches.
Kail doesn't think much is going to come of any of this and is about to turn away and walk back to his table when Len starts to speak again. He does his best to keep his hood up to at least have some coverage, but something stops him in his tracks.
Something about these particular words doesn't sit right with him. In fact, he begins to stumble back a little bit, hood flying back along with his whole body, right into one of the tables.
As Kail falls back, Len can feel someone large grab ahold of him, covering his mouth as they keep him in place. They speak with a deep voice, rough like granite.
Stormbreaker: "That's enough of that. You two need to be kept separate right now, I think."
The goliath that was being served at the bar is now holding Len in place and keeping a hand over his mouth, to prevent him from speaking anymore painful mockeries.
Len struggles in the grasp, looking furious.
A muffled "-Et offa ee!" can be heard, if you lean in closely.
Rowan settles down with a pout, disappointed with it all ending so soon.
The goliath does not set Len down or let him go, but instead looks over to Kail.
Stormbreaker: "Are you okay?"
Stormbreaker looks back towards the bar.
Stormbreaker: "Rosiza, some help?"
A gnomish woman makes some exaggerated motions as she finishes the bites she's eating from the food in front of her.
Rosiza: "Yeah! Just a moment!"
If anything, that just makes Len more enraged.
Len: "Hee th' on oo unched ee!"
Kail is still rightfully reeling at the moment, trying to steady his head with his hand. He mutters something but it can't be deciphered or even heard at that point. He can at least see the giant man holding Len, still confused.
Kail: "huh?"
The gnome, who the Goliath called Rosiza, has made her way over to Kail.
Rosiza: "You good, kid? Better take a seat, Remes is already pissed enough about you starting a fight, let it calm down and he might let it go, so long as nothing is broken."
The goliath starts dragging Len, and his table, away from Kail.
Stormbreaker: "Come, lets find you a better place to sit."
Kail looks up at the gnome, rubbing his eyes a little before fully sitting up.
Kail: "I'm fine...I'll be fine."
Len: "Let go of me! I will move myself, thank you!"
Len snaps at the goliath, ripping himself out of his grip.
He stomps over to a new area, a dark cloud seeming to follow him.
Rowan sticks a fork in her steak, frowning.
Rowan: "Killjoys."
The goliath watches Len go, then gives Rowan a look, before making sure Rosiza is good, then sits back down.
Rosiza looks at the table after Kail says he's fine.
Rosiza: "Let's see...nope, all looks good. I'd stay away from him rest of today, at least. Seems like a real piece of work. Glad Storm there stepped in when he did."
Kail: "Im grateful. Apologies for the uh...altercation by the way...I don't do getting talked down to so my temper just got a little...heated. Thank you".
Kail begins to stand up the best he can before shuffling back over to his previous table, letting his head rest on it.
Rosiza: "No problem! Have a drink, they're really cheap right now! I like the Fargrit Wine, myself!"
Rosiza starts to head back to her own seat.
Len, now in a different corner, with a new set of food, is muttering angrily to himself.
Len: "Unbelievable... I was assaulted and yet I am the one being treated like the common rif-raf, when I was retaliating!"
Rowan, on the other hand, is watching Kail and Rozisa.
Kail nods, his voice having quieted down.
Kail: "Actually, if they have hot chocolate that would be fantastic. I haven't been here long, so I’m not entirely sure of the choices."
He gives a light smile.
Rosiza: "You could always ask Remes! Might be on his secret menu!"
Rosiza makes it back to her seat, while Remes drops a goblet and an open bottle of wine off at Len's table, while serving others.
Remes: "Here's half a bottle of a sweet white, on the house, for the trouble."
Len, without words, opens the bottle, pours it in the goblet, and swings his head back for a long sip, before slamming it back down.
Len: "Thank you."
Rowan has her cheek pressed against her hand.
Rowan: "Why'd you go up n' punch him anyway? Sure he was rude and honestly I wanted to see mo-"
She stops, feeling a stern look on her.
Rowan:"-Ooooooond it seemed kinda like an extreme reaction, don't you think?"
Kail lazily looks over at Rowan, massaging his temple so that he can regain all of his bearings.
Kail: "Because I don't enjoy being talked down to. That's all. If I can't be treated as an equal, I'll give a reason to be."
Rowan gives a lazy glance over at Len, who is still muttering darkly.
Rowan: "I don't think that'll work for him. I get the feeling he doesn't see anyone as an equal. So, like.... I dunno. Might save yourself some trouble and ignore him."
Kail can't help but laugh a little. The last time he ignored someone....it didn't exactly go over well. The past can leave some nasty scars.
Kail: "He'll learn to respect me. One way or another."
Rowan: "Why go to the trouble tho? It's not like his opinion matters."
Completely ignorant to the chaos that had happened before, a dragonborn walks in with a pep in its step, giving his food order quickly -Both of those specials sounded tasty so why not both, who has time to sit and decide- and looks around for a bit before making a beeline to an empty table, too oblivious from his happy thoughts of eating a lot to notice the fact that his tail is wagging all over the place, and being a potential hazard.
Kail lets out a small chuckle, not paying too much mind to the tail swinging haphazardly across the floor.
Kail: "Because it always matters. It will all work out eventually."
Rowan: "I dunno man. I think you're wasting your effort. But hey, it's not my life, so."
She snorts at some inside joke.
Len knocks back another gulp of wine, looking slightly less murderous than before.
As Zazikel sits at his table, his tail continues to make a steady 'thump' noise as it flops about, rhythmically tapping the table with his claws as he waits for his food.
He takes a look around again, and notes down the appearances of the other people in there, so many interesting faces!
An Eladrin individual of questionable gender sits quietly alone at a table near the door, observing the scene around them as they eat. They hunch slightly over their meal, as if attempting to be even smaller than they already were.
A grey-skinned Tiefling strolls into the room, as oblivious to the prior chaos as the Dragonborn that had entered before him. Around his shoulders, coiled about his throat like a living scarf, is a young silver-scaled drake. He looks around for a moment before simply heading to the first empty table he sees.
Len sends a sharp glare at the dragonborn.
Len: "Will you stop that?"
The dragonborn makes a tiny, meek noise of surprise, hands hastily moving off the table to grab his tail and bring it up to his lap, stopping it from making noise.
Zazikel "S-Sorry!"
Kail shoots another glare over at Len, still not done with the spat from earlier. His own tail begins thumping on the floor, just loud enough for len to hear.
Len glares back, gripping his goblet tight.
Rowan whispers,
Rowan: "Fight, fight, fight..."
Zazikel shrinks a little in his chair, unsure how to feel about the current energy that has been created in the room, thinking to himself,
Zazikel: 'Did...Did i just start a fight?!'
Kail doesn't relent on the thumping. He knows it is driving Len crazy. He doesn't relinquish his gaze.
It is starting to get eerily quiet other than Rowan’s whispers.
Len tsks and turns back to finish his wine.
Len: "A brash, violent, Neanderthal isn't worth my attention."
Kail growls under his breath listening to Len speak again.
Kail: "What a pity that we have to share a room with a spoiled child."
Zazikel shrinks into his chair even more, his tail held close to him.
Zazikel: 'Gods help me'
Len: "The dragonborn was loud, not spoiled. Clearly you need to get your eyes checked."
Kail: "And you need your brain checked. I was speaking about you, Mr high and mighty."
Zazikel raises a finger slightly, voice cracking a little from nervousness.
Zazikel: "I d-didn't mean to be, you c-could've been a little nicer about it.."
Len waves his hand.
Len: "Yes yes, I apologize for being rude, forgive me."
He says extremely nonchalantly.
Len: "If you would like to blame someone for my bad mood, feel free to look at the man who assaulted me."
As if he hadn't learned his lesson the last time, Kail stood up again.
Kail: "I'll do it again if you can't learn to use a single kind bone in your body, brat."
Len: "How weak is your backbone if you can't take a single insult?"
Rowan is now chanting "Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight" at a slightly louder volume, using her fork to make a rhythm against the table.
Zazikel sinks so far into his chair he could fall off it, shoving his face into the small scarf around his neck.
Kail: "I'll show you weak when I throw you out of the bar. Treat people as equals or expect the same treatment in return."
Len: "I am a member of the guild this bar hosts, you absolute cretin. You have no authority to throw me out, and it's rather brash of you to assume that you do, undermining the actual leadership and power of the people who own this place, because of your own pathetic displeasure."
Rowan seems to pull some popcorn outta no where, and stands to offer some to the frightened Dragonborn.
Rowan: "Hey, want some?"
Zazikel grabs a handful of popcorn, shoving it into his mouth and swallowing it all in one go.
Horrible decision, he's now coughing because of it.
Rowan: "Yo, dude, take your time."
She's giving him some pats on the back, sounding vaguely concerned.
Zazikel makes a quiet noise of defeat, shoving his face back into his scarf in embarrassment.
Rowan: "So, like, while those two are arguing,"
She points a fork at Kail and Len.
Rowan: "What's your deal? You came in all peppy like some little lost puppy."
Zazikel almost looks like the physical manifestation of :twinkfingers:, nervously messing with his scarf.
Zazikel: "I was just glad to get some nice food..I didint expect all this.."
Rowan: "Look kid, don't let them bother ya, just eat your food."
The Eladrin, Zucca, continues to simply watch the scenes unfold before them. The fighting makes them a little uncomfortable, but given the foul moods of the two involved, they've decided against trying to speak up.
Vigilance is also watching the two angry men, preparing to try and diffuse things if he is needed at all.
The thought of authority sets Kail off again. He's like a raging bull. Except he looks more like a purple humanoid unicorn. It doesn't really help his case.
He doesn't wait to move around the table, back closer to Len again.
Kail: "I take authority of my own life. Don't make me show you the real meaning of displeasure and pain."
Len stands this time, sneering, though he makes no attempt to get closer. The opposite, in fact. He takes a step back, preparing to dodge whatever Kail plans.
Len: "Are you telling me you have no respect for the authority of this establishment you are in? Then why did you even join? How foolish. Do you solve everything you disagree with with violence? You really are nothing but a brainless barbarian."
Kail bares his fangs this time, using height to his advantage as he steps closer.
Kail: "Only a coward resorts to name calling. I. Am. A. Bard."
Len bares his shark-like teeth in response.
Len: "There is no possible way that you are a bard. I am a bard. Do you enjoy hitting others to prove your point? Can you not use words?"
Zazikel just glances between the two, nervously reaching over to grab more popcorn.
Rowan is casually leaning against the bar next to Zazikel, chewing her own mouthful of popcorn.
Kail: "I practiced with swords and blades. Clearly you didn't stay in school long enough."
Len: "Only someone uneducated needs to express themselves with weapons."
Kail: "oh that. Is. IT"
Kail jumps towards Len, throwing hands.
Len jumps out of the way, pulling a few daggers from seemingly out of no where, holding them in a way that implies that he's only going to throw them in self-defense.
Len: "Step away from me, you violent cretin!"
Rowan is now, once again, chanting "FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!"
Zazikel gets up from his table, rushing over to the two like 'nope nope nope nope, not doing this' and just, attempting to pick up Kail simba style.
Kail honestly has half a mind to bite Len until he feels himself being lifted upwards. He makes a noise of shock and protest.
Kail: "H-HEY!?"
With the threat, seemingly, neutralized, Len slides his knives back into his robe. Although, he keeps his guard up, still.
Zazikel then marches over back to his own table, placing Kail on one of the seats before going over to take and bring his food over too.
He then takes a seat as well, and goes back to hiding his face in his scarf as he shrinks into said seat once more.
With the situation, looking resolved, Rowan shrugs, tosses her empty popcorn bucket, and moves to sit back where she was.
Len is aware of someone moving to stand near his table, and they begin to speak in a loud, overly confident and boisterous voice.
Emmitt: "Now what is the meaning of all this? I though this was Knights Night here! And yet I don't recognize a single one of these troublemakers here!"
The figure, a large man in expensive armor and a very bold looking face, stands looking at the newer members of the Knights. He has his arms crossed and a very lazy cocked smile on his face. His hair looks annoyingly perfect and his beard is frustratingly well kept. His eyes look disgustingly pretty.
Len glares at the man, but makes no comment, quite done with the day. He simply takes his things and moves to yet another table.
As soon as he thinks he has recovered, Kail sees the loud, and sort of obnoxious large man now presiding over Len’s table.
His mouth turns up in an annoyed snarl, but he keeps quiet for the moment.
Zucca glances up at the stranger from their plate, before promptly deciding that they don't want to get wrapped up in any potential trouble and they just look down again.
Vigilance looks up as well, sipping from a freshly ordered mug of mead. His drake sits on his lap, stealing scraps of food from his plate.
Len finds a space near some random, quiet looking Teifling and sits there, not asking permission.
Hopefully this table partner is bearable.
Zazikel takes a deep breath, trying to stay calm.
Zazikel: 'Of course someone's trying to instigate something, of course '
Remes shouts out to the stranger.
Remes: "Everyone here is in the knights, Emmitt. Just a little scuffle between some newer folk."
Emmitt looks to Remes and then those whom he doesn't recognize.
Emmitt: "Well, I certainly wouldn't have chosen for them to join."
He relaxes his arms as he follows Len to the table he had moved to.
Emmitt: "You seem like the brightest of the bunch so far, to me. Not that there is a very high bar there."
He leans onto the table.
Emmitt: "But you still don't seem very impressive to me."
Len gives the man a thin-eyed glare.
Len:"Is there something you want?"
Rowan was once again watching from her table, but she had her nose wrinkled. She did not like this new guy. Not that she liked the other two much more, but something about this one gave her the creeps in a way Kail and Len just inherently didn't.
Vigilance eyes the man called Emmet, resting a hand on Bee's back to keep her from popping up into view again.
Vigilance: "Is there something you need? Pretty shitty to harass the new folk, don't ya think?"
Emmitt: "Just looking for a reason why I shouldn't boot you when I take over the guild, is all."
Emmitt dips is fingers into Lens goblet, and gives the wine a smell. He matches Len's glare with an intense and unbroken stare as he does so.
Zazikel gives the large man the stink eye, a small cloud of icy mist escaping his nostrils as he huffs a little
He really did not like him.
Len makes to reach for his goblet, and 'accidentally' knocks it over, so the wine spills over the side and onto Emmitt's pants.
Len: "Oh my, how clumsy of me. Looks like I will just have to get another goblet."
With rolled eyes, he stands, and makes his way back to the bar, hoping for the night to just end already.
Emmitt puts a hand out and grabs Len, stopping him with a strong and firm grip.
Emmitt: "You should really be more careful. You never know what kind of accidents might befall 'clumsy' people."
He then let's Len go, as his armor cleans itself to a gleaming shine.
He looks to Vigilance.
Emmitt: "And how about you? Are you 'clumsy' as well?"
Vigilance: "Sometimes."
He just raises his mug to his lips again, but doesn't break eye contact with Emmitt.
Len sneers at the man, a growl deep in his throat.
Len: "Do not touch me."
Emmitt seems to pay no more mind to Len, now focused for the time on Vigilance.
Emmitt:"Sometimes. And tell me, have you taken any jobs yet? Provided any service to the community or this guild?"
Vigilance: "I only joined yesterday, so not yet. Why's it matter to you? I don't see why my work is any of your business."
He keeps his hand on Bee's back, even though she's starting to squirm now.
Len stomped by, passing where Kail, Rowan, and a few others were sitting.
Rowan: "Hey man, that guy's just an asshole. I mean, you kinda are too, but that guy's a different level."
Rowan said to him as he passed by.
Len: "I do not need to hear your words."
She shrugs, keeping an eye on Emmitt.
Zazikel continues to give Emmitt the stink eye, a steady puff of icy mist now leaking out of the corners of his mouth instead as he taps his claws on the table angrily, mouth open in a slight snarl
Emmitt let's out a laugh at Vigilance's words, and speaks through a large smile.
Emmitt: "It's my business because I'm an officer of this guild. And a high ranking one, at that! And whatever it is that old man Korr saw in you, I don't see it. He won't be in charge for ever. So you best hope you prove your worth to me before he steps down."
He backs up from the table and looks around the tavern, at the others in there.
Emmitt: "But until then, consider this a probationary period for all you unproven newcomers."
Len is ignoring the man, getting a new goblet of wine, and Rowan looks unimpressed. Both refuse to give the man any kind of reaction.
Vigilance: "Mmh... You don't strike me as a very good leader, sadly."
Vigilance just gives the man a toothy grin.
Vigilance: "Korr is the only man who's opinion of me I'm interested in."
Zaz gives a small grunt of agreement
Emmitt: "And for now, that's just fine. For now."
He gives a smile as he emphasizes 'for now'.
He then looks over in Zazikel's direction, and smiles widely.
Emmitt: "Ah! A dragonborn! Tell me. Are you of the slaving sort?"
Vigilance keeps up his smile.
Vigilence: "Such a tough guy, making assumptions to harass the people he plans on leading one day. Are you that much of a brute that you can't hold a civilized conversation without resulting to childish behavior?"
A low rumble of a growl escapes Zazikel’s throat, cloud of icy mist freely flowing out as he speaks and claws digging into the table in anger
Zazikel: "Excuse me?"
Rowan frowns deeply at this, itching for her weapons, but keeping herself still.
Len glares at the man as he stands facing the bar still, quietly sipping his wine.
Emmitt: "You don't lead trash."
The smile in Emmitt’s tone was aggravating. He gives Zazikel a mockingly pouty face.
Emmitt: "Oh. I'm sorry. Did I say something upsetting? I suppose we can't all be perfect like me."
A snort could be heard loudly coming from where Len was, his head now turned back to face the bar.
Zazikel turns to look away from the man without answering, busying himself with picking his nails out of the table, and continuing his meal. His tail angrily thumped against the floor
Emmitt: "That's probably for the best. I'm sure none of you vagrants would like to lose that wonderfully affordable housing you just found yourselves in reach of by attacking an officer. Would you, now?"
He speaks with the smuggest and most arrogant self righteous tone of voice.
Len: "Your over-compensation proves how much of a try hard you are, lording your seniority over those you deem less powerful than you. I do have to wonder what Korr was thinking when he took you in, when I doubt anyone with a functioning brain could miss your obvious power hungry and greedy tendancies."
Len took another sip of his wine. Rowan had to hide the snort that came up from hearing Len's words.
Vigil keeps his eyes directed forward, but he slightly raises his mug in Len's direction in a silent gesture of agreement.
Vigilance: "Really is quite a shame, if you ask me."
Emmitt: "Quality. He saw the quality I bring. I am the most perfect specimen of a mortal you will see outside of the upper planes. And I have proven myself time and again to be perfect."
He turns to look at Len, again.
Emmitt: "It seems that talk of respect for authority was just that. Talk. I have ways of ensuring the respect I deserve is given. In time."
Vigilance: "Oh wow, are you the 'lead by fear' type? I'm sure that won't come back to bite you in the ass one day."
He sets his mug down and raises both hands in an exaggerated shrug.
Len: "Oh, I do have respect. For Korr, and the owner of this bar. Not some bully who thinks he can get away with picking on the so called 'small fry,' because he thinks he can get away with it. You have shown no reason to be respected, and I have no desire to respect someone so deluded in themselves."
The growl that was in Kail's throat grew louder until he stood up from the table for the THIRD time.
Kail:"I think we're all in agreeance that perhaps you are the one who is not fit"
Rowan keeps quiet, but she's be lying if she said she wasn't ready to grab her sword if need be.
At Vigilance's words and movement of the hand from his lap, and silver scaled blur lunges forward. Jaws snap at Emmit's ankles, glittering with ice, but the little drake skids past him.
At the words from everyone, and the snap from the drake, a wave of overwhelming pressure fills the room, emanating from Emmitt, holding those affected rooted in place from his presences.
Emmitt: "Yes. I am the lead by fear type. And you should do well to remember that."
He then kicks Bee, and turns to begin marching from the tavern.
The Drake skids a little further from the force of the kick, before just slinking back under the table and up into her Ranger's lap.
This, for some reason, pisses off Rowan, despite her fear.
She stands, knocking her chair back, glaring at the man furiously.
Rowan: "Yeah, and guess what, prick? The second your so-called followers lose their fear of you, I'm sure they won't hesitate to off you the moment they get the chance. The only thing you deserve is the dogshit on my shoes."
Len keeps his back to them, hiding the fear on his expression and the shake throughout his body.
Len: "Worthless." He spits out, muttering to himself.
Uneffected by the man's trickery, Zazikel watches him leave, eating some of his food with such force that theres a 'snapping' noise at his bite
Zazikel: "Cant even bring fear to someone properly, so he resorts to magic instead like a pathetic waste of space."
Vigilance only relaxes once Emmit is far away from him, and then he sighs and downs the rest of his mead before standing. Bee quickly skitters up to his shoulders again and curls up there like she'd been when he arrived.
Kail chooses to look down, letting his hood fall back over his face. It had been a while since he'd felt this kind of fear. The kind that overwhelmed you and made you sick to your stomach. He wanted so badly to follow him and just knock his lights out.
Kail: "just one chance...."
Emmitt pauses at the door, looks back at everyone, and flashes a wide and almost manic smile. He then leaves the Gilded Marlin, and the overwhelming presences leaves with him.
Vigilance just stalks over to the bar, his own tail lashing angrily from side to side. He tries to keep his voice light and friendly as he calls out, but some of his anger still seeps through.
Vigilance: "Remes! Mind refillin' me, buddy?"
Len scoffed, as soon as that man was out of sight.
Len: "What a pathetic excuse of a walking meatbag. This place will sooner fall to ruin should he ever gain power."
Rowan slammed back into her chair as she pulled it up, looking truly pissed.
Rowan: "I hate jackasses like that. Remes! More food! I got the coin!"
Remes drops off another drink for Vigilance, and acknowledges Rowan as he gets more food underway.
Zazikel silently reaches into his backpack, taking out a notebook and pencil
He begins to draw a crude caricature of the man, along with writting his name and a small description of how he acted
In just those few moments, Kail seemingly forgot about the spat with Len, falling back into his seat. He didn't speak much more on anything, choosing instead to hold his stomach so as to not lose what little contents it did hold.
Vigilance nods to Remes.
Vigilence: "Thank you."
He then turns to Len.
Vigilence: "As much as I agree with your statement there, I'm afraid none of us here have any sort of standing to prevent the possibility of him gaining power."
Len: "You're forgetting something crucial."
He takes a sip.
Len:"We could just leave. There's nothing preventing anyone here from just leaving and not having to deal with him again."
Rowan gulped down a glass of water, and jumped out of her seat again, walking right next to Len.
Rowan: "Look, that ain't an option for everyone. But! Just! Fuck that guy!"
She turns to every one else, grabbing a handful of Len's sleeve.
Rowan: "All I'm saying is I'd rather spend ten minutes alone in the dark with this guy instead of that prick!"
Len: "Let go of me! I have been man handled enough today!"
Rowan: "My point still stands!"
She lets ago, and Len looks annoyed and ruffled, but less so than earlier.
Vigilence: "She is right, though. Not all of us have the option to leave."
He turns around to lean back against the counter.
Vigilance: "Everyone's reasons for joining are different, after all."
Zazikel: "Though i wish it was that easy.."
He continues the note taking, ocassionally pausing to take a bite of food, it had gone a bit cold by now but he didint seem to care
Len grumbles, straightening out his robe, sending a half hearted glare Rowan's way. He wanted to go to his room, but he didn't want to run into a certain someone on the way.
Rowan went back to her seat, but paused as she passed by Kail.
She kicked the leg of his chair.
Rowan: "Hey. Hey. You alright there? You look like you're gonna puke."
Kail pulled the hood further down over his face, looking like he was shivering for a moment.
Kail: " 'm fine..."
Vigilance gently swirls his mead for a moment before again looking over at Len.
Vigilance: "I don't think I've gotten the chance to formally introduce myself yet. My name is Vigilance."
He reaches up with his free hand to gently pet the snout of his drake, who makes a pleased rumbling sound.
Vigilance: "And this is Bee. She says hello."
He sniffs a little, but doesn't rebuff the introduction.
Len: "You may call me Len."
Vigilance gives a slight nod.
Vigilance: "A pleasure to meet you, Len. May time turn us both into reliable allies."
He takes a long drink from his mug, them straightens and walks off back to his table.
Len gives Vigil a long sideways look.
Len: ".... Likewise."
Vigilance just raises his mug in acknowledgement as he walks away.
Len hmphs and returns to his wine.
Rowan pokes Kail on the shoulder.
Rowan: "Drink some water. You'll feel better."
He peeked out a small area of his hood to look at her before receeding back into it.
Kail: "Maybe in a minute....Just need to sit down for a second"
Zazikel begins to take small notes on everyone else aswell, still staying mostly silent
Len sneers.
Len: "And you were so boisterous earlier. Or was that all false bravado?"
Without warning, a cup of water is slammed next to Kail, as Len walks off.
Rowan raises an eyebrow.
Rowan: "Weird guy, that one."
Vigil lightly scratches Bee's chin before murmuring to her. A moment later the little drake hops off his shoulders and trots across the room, hopping up onto Zazikel's table and sitting down in front of the Dragonborn.
Kail nearly jumped when he heard the cup hit the table, still full of water before his friend from earlier walked off. He let out a smaller laugh this time, not lifting his head too much while he reached for the cup.
Kail: "Maybe there is a kind bone in his body. That big oaf however....I'd like to see him crushed"
Zazikel blinks a little in surprise, holding out his hand gently for the Drake to bump into if it was looking for pets and speaking softly
Zazikel: "Hello little one.."
Bee happily moves closer and rubs her face against Zazikel's hand, before then skittering up his arm to sit on his shoulder.
Len walks over to his own corner now, away from every one else, finally able to enjoy his dinner in peace.
Rowan leans back in her chair, looking thoughtful.
Zazikel offers some of his food to Bee and a few more pets, before continuing his note taking
Bee is more than happy to accept the food, munching away as she watches him write.
The Goliath from before comes to sit near Zazikel.
Stormbreaker: "Don't let that guy get to you. He did similar to us when we joined."
He gestures to himself and Rosiza.
Zazike:"Ive met worse..."
He pauses for a bit, then motions to his notebook
Zazikel: "Allegedly, from what's written in here atleast."
Bee arches her back at the arrival of the Goliath, before jumping to the floor and running off. She makes her way over to Kail and Rowan's table, once again jumping up onto said table and sitting down in front of them.
Rowan, one hand pressing against her cheek, looks down at the lil dragon-thing, reaching a finger out to it with her other hand.
Rowan: "Hey, lil guy."
The drake tilts her head before stretching her neck forward to lightly boop the outstretched finger.
Rowan boops it back lazily, using the finger to pet its head.
Bee makes a happy trill and moves closer, flopping down onto her side and partially rolling onto her back.
Rowan tickles the drake's stomach, grabbing a piece of meat from one of her plates and tosses it to Bee.
Rowan: "Here ya go."
Bee immediately flips back to her feet and catches the meet midair, head comically whipping side to side as if she'd just caught a fresh kill.
Rowan pushes the rest of her scraps to Bee.
Rowan: "Just take the rest. I'm full now."
Bee quickly eats the first scrap of meat, and then pounces onto the plate.
From a few tables over, Vigilance laughs from where he's keeping an eye on Bee's movements.
Vigilance: "You'll spoil her if that becomes a habit...!"
Rowan: "Eh, I got enough to spare here."
She gestures to the dozens of plates littering the table. Far more than a woman her size should be able to eat.
Vigilance laughs lightly again.
Vigilance: "So you do! I suppose Bee does deserve a bit of a feast tonight."
Rowan "Yeah, after that bastard."
She reaches over to pet the drake again.
Vigilance stands and makes his way over to Rowan's table, sitting down across from her so as to not shout across multiple tables to have a conversation.
Vigilance: "Bastard kicked her. She's not even a year old yet, and he had the nerve."
Rowan:"She's a baby?"
That made her pause, looking down at Bee with a hard to read look.
Vigilance: "Yeah. She's too small to be anything but... Especially seeing as how drakes can grow large enough for a person to ride."
Bee, having quickly finished off all of the scraps of meat, was happily enjoying the attention she was receiving.
Rowan: "Huh."
Rowan sticks her finger out again, for the drake to nuzzle.
Bee playfully pounces on Rowan's hand, lightly nipping at her fingers. It doesnt hurt at all, but the icy chill of her teeth is still noticeable. Vigil sips from his mug before speaking.
Vigilance:” "Ironically, she's quite a bit hardier than I am."
Rowan doesn't seem to notice the chill at all, letting Bee run up her arm.
Rowan:"Well, she's kinda like a tiny dragon, right? Makes sense."
Vigilance: "I suppose she is very dragon-like. Scales are certainly tougher than leather."
He smiles lightly as the Drake scampers up Rowan's arm up onto her shoulder, where she then hops up onto her head and perches there triumphantly.
Rowan: "Careful with the braid." She says casually, booping Bee's nose again. "Looks like I've stolen your friend here."
Vigilance laughs again.
Vigilance: "I can always summon her back if I need to."
He keeps his voice light as he speaks, but then holds his hand out suddenly.
Vigilance: "I'm Vigilance, by the way."
Rowan offers a hand in return. Her fingers- the ones exposed thanks to her fingerless archery glove- feel... Cold.
Rowan: "Rowan. Nice to meet you."
Vigilance: "The pleasure's all mine."
Vigilance keeps his smile up, mentally trying not to focus on the chill of her fingers that so reminds him of his own drake.
The cold felt... Odd. It wasn't overpowering, but it was more than should probably be natural. Rowan pulls her hand back.
Rowan: "So... If you don't mind me askin'... What're ya doing here?"
Vigilance pulls his hand back as well, contemplating his answer before finally speaking.
Vigilance: "Staying vigilant, so to speak. Waiting for... A sign."
Rowan: "You uh... Really live up to the name, huh?"
Vigilance: "My name reflects my duty. That's why I took it on as my name."
Rowan: "Duty, huh?"
Vigilance nods, silent for a moment. He then points up at Bee.
Vigilance: "My drake is proof of my task. She keeps me grounded and serves as a reminder of what I'm doing."
Rowan:"So... What're you... doing? Vigilant for... What?"
She made a hand motion.
Rowan: "Not to be nosey or anything, I just don't really get it."
Vigilance: "I'm just....waiting for a sign. I don't know exactly."
He frowns some and looks down at his mead.
Vigilance: "It's a little complicated, I guess."
Rowan: "Huh. Alright, I guess."
She shrugs.
Vigilance: "What about you? What brings you to the guild?"
Rowan: "Hmn..."
She gives another shrug.
Rowan: "Just... Looking for something. Hopefully being here will help."
Vigilance: "I see. A few pairs of eyes around ought to make it easier to spot things, I suppose."
He drinks from his mug again before setting it down.
Rowan: "Yeeeah... It should..."
Rowan takes a sip of her water, not commenting further.
Vigilance grows quiet then, fingers idly tapping the side of his mug as he stares off at nothing, lost in thought.
A few minutes have passed, and Len seems to have calmed down and relaxed in his little corner, finally eating his dinner entirely.
Zazikel takes a spare piece of paper out of his bag, scribbling a quick note on it before excusing himself from his table company for a bit
He walks over to Len, handing the note along with a small "sorry for the noise disturbance earlier!"
As he rushes back to his table, he calls out to Bee in draconic, telling the Drake that she was free to come eat the rest of his meal if she wanted to, as he had lost his appetite
The note shows a messy doodle of Len and Zazikel, with a small musical note above them, and the words on it read "Hi! Im Zazikel, i hope we can work together so none of us have to work with the rude man! I also hope you dont mind if i took some notes on you, it helps me remember people!"
When Zazikel calls over, Bee raises her head to listen and then hops to the floor and bounds over excitedly. She jumps up onto the table, skidding just a little bit.
Zazkiel gives her a few more pets, humming softly
Zazikel: "I hope you dont mind that its a bit cold little one, i was kind of letting the ice mist from my anger get all over it.."
Len raises an intrigued eyebrow at the note.
This was... An offering. Hm. And that dragonborn, Zazikel, and written notes on him as well, and, although poor, drew an image of his likeness. The doodle of Zazikel himself proved that his artistic abilities were not great, so the poor doodle of Len was the best he could do.
Well. Far be it from Len to turn down offering of admiration. He stuffs the note into his robe without a word, drinking more wine from his goblet as he did so.
Kail remained quieted down at his seat, trying to keep his hood pulled down so that no one could see the nausea on his face. He sipped at the water a bit, and straightened his scarf.
Len, now having finished his dinner after this long, frustrating day, leans back in his chair and pulls out a harp.
With practiced hands, he begins playing a soft, melodic, and almost otherworldly tune.
Bee was happy to finish off Zazikel's food scraps, and she curls up on the table when she's finished, preparing for a nap.
When he heard the music of a harp start up, he was a little caught off guard seeing that it was coming from Len. The guy seemed more like a flutist than anything else.
But....it did sound a little nice. Especially after everything they had just dealt with.
Len continued to play, his melody almost sweet, able to reach everyone in the bar, but not being distracting. It was almost white noise, background music you never knew you needed, but now that it's there, you don't want it gone.
Listening to the harp, it brought back some of the better memories that Kail could remember. He sighed, looking down at his things he'd sat down next to his seat at the table.
He couldn't help but reach over to grab his viol that had been placed on top of his other packs. Maybe....Maybe it was time to start playing again.
Len kept on, his fingers maneuvering the strings elegantly. A soft hum could be heard coming from him.
There wasn't much more thinking to it before Kail took the bow and started on with the viol. Purely on instinct, he was already trying to match up with what Len was playing, to at least make it sound pleasant.
Zazikel listens to them play, happily bobbing his head side to side with the tune
Len quirks an eyebrow at Kail, but gives no other response to the other man playing.
He was at least competent with his musical ability.
Len was tempted to sing along with the melody being created, but, well, nothing good tends to happen when sirens sing.
Kail couldn't help but smile, keeping up with the pace and following along. It was calming to play again, and even more calming to hear the melody float through the room.
He hummed along a bit, getting lost in the musicTrivia
