Delivery for Tecilis is the 8th Roleplay in the Rookie Knights Arc. This role play is the first look at low stakes Knight Contracts, as well as a first look at the Magewood District and the Mage Colleges within them
This is the first time Teclis Cielli is mentioned. As well as the first reference to the King's Era

Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/10/2021
After getting his first job from the Guild, Vigilance receives the information for where he is to go. A warehouse in the Whisperwind Warf. He's told he'll be helping escort a cart of goods to one of the arcane colleges in the Magewood District. He is told to find a dwarf at the warehouse, Rotgrim Smugfeast. He'll be taking directions from him.
Jay (Drake Papa) — 11/10/2021
Vigilance looks over the information he was given regarding his job, and tried to swallow down his nerves. It wouldn't do for his mask to slip now, on his very first job for the guild. He takes a moment to make sure he has everything he'll need: short swords, bow, rations. He made sure his vessel was still at his hip as well, before calling Bee up onto his shoulder and making his way to this warehouse.
He looked around for anyone in the vicinity that could help him find the dwarf he was looking for.
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/10/2021
He can see a number of workers unloading a cart of goods from ships, and loading carts bound destinations in the city.
He sees a human watching the workers do their jobs, likely a foreman or organizer, as she had manifests in her hand.

He takes note of the number of works around, watches them for a moment. But then he notices the woman, and makes his way over to her.
"E-Excuse me...!"

She looks up at Vigilance.
"Yes? Can I help you?"

"Um, I'm looking for someone called Rotgrim Smugfeast.... Would you be able to point me in the right direction?"
He smiles at her, hoping that his nervousness wasn't written on his face as plainly as he felt it was.
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/10/2021
She points to a cart being loaded, with a very rotund Dwarf checking all the retention lines keeping things in place once loaded.
Jay (Drake Papa) — 11/10/2021
"Oh! Thank you very much!"
He nods to her before hurrying over to the dwarf she pointed out.
"Excuse me, Mr. Smugfeast?"

"Aye?"

"Um, I'm here for the delivery job..."

"Ah right. What's yer name?"

"Vigilance."
He reaches up to pet Bee, who was quietly perched on his shoulder.
"And this is Bee."

"Did hear there'd be a Bee. Give me a moment an we can talk inside."
He turns to the workers.
"Finish up here lads, I'll check the straps when I get back. You'll get yer pay before I set off."
He then waves Vigilance to follow him.

He follows along after him, glancing around as he walks.

The warehouse is full of various crates and goods. He's in the storage space very shortly before ending a side office.
"We got a package for one of the professors at an arcane College, Teclis. He's been waiting for it, so we wanted to make sure to arrived. He requested third party protection. That's you."
He indicates a small wooden box the size of a bread box.

He looks over at the box, moving over to look it over carefully.
"Is there anything I should keep in mind when handling it?"

"Don't drop it."
He pulls out a parchment.
"I'll need a signature here, chain of custody. We'll have Sagi outside sign as a witnesses before we leave."

"Right, of course."
He moves back over to take the parchment, looking it over quickly.
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/11/2021
It was a simple statement showing Chain of custody, that the parcel was moving from the warehouse into Vigilance possession.
There was also a line for it to be transferred to who ever receives it from him.

Satisfied that the page was as it was claimed to be, Vigil then looks for a quill so that he can sign where he's supposed to. The drake on his shoulder curiously watching the dwarf.

He finds one on the table near by.
The Dwarf was making sure a lock on the box was latched and sealed, signing a paper, folding it, and slipping it to the mechanism.

He quickly signs the page and turns back to Rotgrim.
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/11/2021
"Right, we'll get Sagi to sign and we can be in our way."
He hands Vigilance the package.
"Got a tamper proof lock. Inside it is another box with a tamper proof lock. Again, don't drop it."

He nods again as he takes the package.
"Of course. Thank you."
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/11/2021
It weights a lot more then it looks like it should. Probably close to 25 lbs, despite being able to fit in one human adult sized hand.
"I'll make sure the carts all ready. Go get the witness signature."

"Right."
He holds onto the package carefully, squashing down his curiosity on it's contents, and heads back outside to look for this Sagi person.

Rotgrim points out the woman that sent Vigilance his way as Sagi.
She was still checking manifests and watching carts be loaded.

He trots over to her, tail flicking behind him.
"Excuse me! Miss Sagi?"
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/11/2021
She looks over at Vigilance.
"Yes?"

He holds out the paper to her.
"Um, Mr. Smugfeast said to get your signature on this while he finishes up with the carts."

She takes it and looks it over.
"Do you have the parcel in your possession?"

He holds it up.
"Right here."
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/11/2021
She looks at it, sees the sealed lock, nods, and signs.
She hands it back.
"Here you are. Have an uneventful day."

"Thank you. You as well."
He turns away from her to look for Rotgrim again.

Rotgrim had fit himself into the driver seat of the cart, while a couple of people were making sure the horses on it were hitched and looking comfortable, feed baskets on their faces still.
The dwarf looks back at Vigilance.
"All in order? Right, hop on, we'll be moving soon."
He looks back to the workers sitting on the back of the cart.
"You lot, head up this way and get yer pay. Gillim, you'll get yours when we unload, take a seat in the back."
A man who looks to be a lifetime laborer nods and keeps a seat in the back of the cart, looking like he's ready to take a quick nap.

Vigilance hesitates just a brief moment before hopping up to sit beside Rotgrim. Bee slides off his shoulder to curl up on his lap instead.
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/11/2021
After a moment, with the workers coming by to take their pay, the horses have their feed baskets removed, are given another check to make sure they're hitched up good, and then Rotgrim is given an okay to go.
"Gillim, we're headin off now. Hold on lad, horses may be eager today, this is their first load since breakfast."
The last bit is said to Vigilance.

He nods and adjusts himself slightly to be more secure.
"Been a while since I've ridden on a horse cart..."
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/11/2021
Rotgrim takes the reins and get the horses moving. They lurch the cart forward a little. They were then on their way, the cart bouncing along the rough street.
"Should take us bout an hour or two to reach the Magewood District. Teclis said we should expect some crafty attempts to steal the package. So keep a good eye out. I got our recipient's name here, when we get there."
He taps his head with a free hand.

"Oh! Good to know..."
He slightly pulls the little package closer to himself, holding it in his lap with both hands now.

As they travel, Vigilance feels like there are people watching from all over. There are so many people, all getting so close constantly. And with all the noise and chatter, it was next to impossible to hear if anyone was trying to sneak up on them.
They get to a point where they go up an incline, toward the Magewood district.
As they do, Vigilance hears a thudding noise, going rapidly. And then sees what looks like an alcohol cask go rolling down the street past them.
Followed closely by a group of dwarves trying to chase after it while shouting dwarven curses and swears, as well as for people to move aside.

Vigil had started to grow restless from all of the noise around him, and had started to slightly withdraw into himself just a little bit.
His head snaps up at the thudding sound and he felt almost sluggish as he tried to decide if he should try to help.
He tried to gauge its trajectory, to make sure it wouldn't crash into Rotgrim's cart, and then tried to peer up in the direction the cask was rolling from, trying to see if he could find where it came from.

It misses the cart entirely, and he can see another cart pulled off to the side, a few works still working on unloading casks for a pub they're in front of.
As they pass by it, he can see a large dwarf with intricate braids shaking his head and making a note on a stone tablet. He looked very sour.

He looks back over at Rotgrim, after taking in the scene.
"That sorta thing happen a lot around here?"
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/11/2021
"Eh, get people makin mistakes all the time in all sorts of professions. Had some myself. Made the wrong delivery, or took a wrong turn and damaged the goods."

"I see."
He lightly pets Bee and looks out over the streets again.
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/11/2021
The ride continues, and they reach the Magewood District.
Tall spires raise above the entire district, like trees fighting for sunlight.
Rotgrim looks around.
"Right...lookin for the College of Forgotten Lore...big spire, gold and black colors...large orb at the top..."

He looks up at the spires for a while, and finds himself having to swallow his nerves for the second time that day.
"College of Forgotten Lore...got it. And I'll be looking for someone called Teclis?"

"This whole shipments for em. So I gotta find it too. And Teclis is unlikely to be the one who actually takes it off yer hands. He's just the one it'll end up with eventually. I'd actually be weary if Teclis was present, myself. That Elf is far to busy to make time to stop to grab a package, no matter how much he might want it."

"Oh. So if he's there, then there's probably trouble ?"

"If he's there, it's probably not him. Remember, crafty attempts to steal."

"Oh. That makes sense."
He looks up at the spires again.

After some time, they're still traveling. And Rotgrim was looking more frustrated.
"I just took two lefts, how we in road that looks the same? I hate this district. Nothing makes sense here..."

"Does this happen a lot?"

"Does what happen alot?"

"Getting turned around like this. I'm still getting a sense of the city, so I'm not sure what to expect from this area yet."

"You'll never know what to expect from the Magewood. I swear this places changes every time I'm here."
He snorts and spits onto the ground in disgust.

"Oh."
He wasn't really sure how to respond to that, so he just looks down at the box in his hands.
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/11/2021
After a few more turns and swears, Vigilance is aware that the people are all different, but the stores, road, and even the spires they see all look to be the exact same. As if they were really traveling in circles.

He shifts restlessly, uncomfortable by this realization. He looks out towards the spires again.
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/12/2021
While looking up at the spires, he notices something.
The sun hasn't moved.
Despite their turns, the time, and all the other things involved, the sun was in the same exact place it had been since they entered the Magewood District.

He frowns up at the oddly stationary sun, and soon voices his discomfort on the matter.
"The sun isn't moving."
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/12/2021
"It what? It What?!"
He looks up.
"It's not! Hold up, Hold up."
He slows the cart to a stop.
"Is this an illusion? Are we bein hoodwinked right now?"

He looks around quietly, looking for any sign of where they should be going, or even the source of this illusion.
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/12/2021
As he does, he notices the facades of the buildings nearby fade to be partially transparent, as do the spires and sun.
He can see the actual locations through the illusion, now.

He squints for a moment, and when he spots the gold and black spire, he points toward it.
"There."
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/12/2021
"Right. If it's that way, we should go...this way...lad, let me know if you see a turn in this buildings. I don't see it but I'm takin you at your word here."
He starts to move the cart and indicates for Vigilance to keep watch on the side of the road he saw the spire towards.

He nods and turns to keep an eye out over the roads, alert for the turn mentioned beforehand.

He sees it through a transparent store front.

As soon as he sees it, he points.
"There! That store there is an illusion."

Rotgrim turns where he is indicated to. And they drive through it and out into a main road. The sun shifts wildly from where he'd seen it before.

He blinks a little at the change and looks around.
"The sun's moved now... Are we out of the illusion?"
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 11/16/2021
"I think we are. Damn mages and their damned illusion..."
They continue on towards their destination.

He doesn't respond to that, instead looking up at the sky to gauge how much time had passed while they were stuck in the illusion.

With a glance, around half an hour to an hour was lost in that illusionary maze.

He frowns some, quietly hoping that whoever was there awaiting their delivery wouldn't be angry about the lost time. He lightly pets Bee, and just keeps an eye out for anymore illusory tricks.

Being out of the illusion, they make decent time getting back on track.
The Tower of Forgotten Lore, with its bulb top, can be seen peeking through the other towers ahead of them.

He looks up at the tower, marveling at it. He wasn't sure what to expect, especially considering his lack of experience with mages of any kind.
Rapidly Approaching Bear — 04/20/2022
They make their way there without further interference, and as they pull up, see a small group of robe wearing individuals waiting outside. One makes their way over as they slow to a stop.
"Smugfeast?"

He looks over at the stranger, once again holding the parcel with both hands. He studies them curiously, but stays quiet.

Smugfeast nods.
"Aye. And yer name?"
"Pallus. You're late. I'm assuming there was an attempt to steal it."
Smugfeast nods again.
"Aye. We still have it, though. You're good to hand it over, lad."
Smugfeast says the second part to Vigilance.

He looks over at Smugfeast when spoken to and just nods. He carefully takes the box and holds it out to Pallus.

Pallus takes the box, and checks the security seal. Satisfied, he steps back.
“Thank you for this delivery. Artifacts from the King’s Era are hard enough to come by, let alone ones from as early as this is believed to be. It will greatly help our theories of that time.”

He sits back to his previous position, now lightly holding onto Bee. An artifact from the King's Era? He had no idea that was what he had signed up to protect...
Then again, there's probably a good reason no one told him.

Smugfeast seems to have also not known what it was.
“Artifact from wh-Nah, nevermind, don’t care. Gillim! Wake up, and help ‘em unload the cart of the rest of the stuff.”
He looks to Vigilance.
“You get paid by yer guild, so you can head off now, or we can give you ride back when we finish here, yer choice.”

Gillim works quick to get the cart unloaded and before too long, it’s empty and ready to return to its warehouse.
The mage who collected the package had long since departed, leaving only laborers and a couple of supervising mages.

He settles into his seat, watching the surrounding activity quietly. He tried his best to relax.

When the last boxes are taken in, and the cart is empty, Gillin hops back into the back and lays back down.
While they're out, Vigilance is aware the mages are staring at Bee, but none of them approach or say anything.

Once he notices the mages' stares, he not-so-subtly holds onto the drake a little tighter. He was very protective of his little companion, and the looks were making him uncomfortable.

They finally set back off, and have no more encounters along the way. They arrive back at the warehouse, where Gillim is paid and heads back inside.
Smugfeast looks to Vigilance.
"End o' the line fir this ride. I'll make sure to let yer guild know the job went well thanks to ye."

He nods and stands.
"Thank you very much, Mr. Smugfeast. Have a good one."
He then hops out of the cart, keeping Bee safely held in his arms.
