Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Maxim is sturdy but not overly muscled. For his age, he's suprisingly athletic and healthy.

Specialized Equipment

For his historical incursions, Maxim uses two small pistols, customly designed to look like and perform like small crossbows. A hand crossbow isn't really a common historical weapon, but it was the only thing acceptable for Kunitsyn. These small crossbows are able to reload automatically, and one doesn't need to apply force to draw the bowstring.

Ручные арбалеты вообще не особо-то историческое оружие, но они были единственным вариантом, приемлемым для Куницына. Personal history

Maxim Andreevich Kunitsyn was born in the post-war Soviet Union and became a career military officer by the age of 24, two years after the Soviet-Afghan war started. He was lucky to go through all the remaining eight years of it with only one injury that didn't make him a disabled person. He was one of the few that remained in the army through the 90s participating in both conflicts in Chechnya as well. On the turn of the century Maxim went on a well-deserved retirement. Just two years later a tragedy struck: he lost his loved ones during a terrorist attack. Since then he didn't rest, trying to find a way to cope with it.

Максим Андреевич Куницын родился в послевоенном СССР и стал профессиональным военным к своим 24 годам, через два года после начала Афганской войны. Ему повезло пройти через оставшиеся восемь лет этого конфликта лишь с одним ранением, которое не сделало из него инвалида. Он, в итоге, был одним из тех немногих, кто решил остаться в армии и участвовал впоследствии ещё в обоих Чеченских конфликтах. В начале "нулевых" Максим вышел на заслуженную пенсию. А через всего два года у него произошла трагедия: он потерял родных и близких во время теракта. С тех пор он никак не мог найти способа психологически с этим справиться.

Education

As it usually is in the Soviet army, Maxim was conscripted for a mandatory military service in the age of 18 and was demobilized as a "sergeant senior". He then got a military higher education and was deployed in Afghanistan in the rank of "lieuthenant junior".

Как обычно в советской армии это бывает, Максима призвали в возрасте 18 лет, он ушёл на дембель старшим сержантом. Потом он получил военное высшее и в Афганистан уже отправился в звании младшего лейтенанта.

Employment

Maxim gave 19 years to the army. Soviet army counts military experience to be worth two or even three years for each year a soldier serves. One couldn't go into retirement without having 25 years of work experience, but for those who served in hotspots it was actually between around 12-13. Maxim served seven more years, and only then he retired.

Максим отдал армии 19 лет. Мы все знаем, как для служивых стаж считается по два-три года за один. В СССР нельзя было уходить на пенсию без 25 лет опыта работы, что превращалось в 12-13 для тех, кто служил в горячих точках. Максим оттарабанил ещё семь лет поверх этого, и лишь после ушёл на покой.

Accomplishments & Achievements

During his military career, Maxim has achieved the rank of Captain. He was also a qualified sniper and has a solid number of state-issued medals of honor, bravery and service.

Mental Trauma

The Afghan war never went without a trace for a Soviet soldier, and Maxim wasn't an exception. He became hardened and somewhat unemotional, or at least he started expressing emotions less. It's hard to scare him and it's hard to impress him. Despite all that, he is capable to just stop and admire history unraveling around him during his Travels.

Kunitsyn uses short and informative sentences in his speech. He's not the one to talk a lot about a subject: convey your thoughts in the most understandable and short way possible, and you're done.

Wealth & Financial state

Maxim isn't wealthy, most of his money was blown on research he needed to achieve his goal. He does own a car, though.

Spoilers for episode 6

At the beginning of the 2000s, Maxim lost his daughter during the terrorist attack on Dubrovka. For a long time, the former military man tried to understand what happened and how he could stop this catastrophe, or at least save his daughter. His search for an answer led him to the Fringe Society, which in turn led him to time travel. But even there, Maxim was in for a frustration: it is possible to travel to a time where you already exist with serious geographic restrictions, and Time is very actively opposing serious changes. Hiring a former sniper, Sesostris promised Maxim to find a way, if not save, then at least find a way to resurrect his daughter ...

Но и там Максима ожидало расстройство: путешествовать во времена, где ты уже существуешь, можно с серьёзными географическими ограничениями, а Время очень активно противостоит серьёзным изменениям. Нанимая бывшего снайпера, Сесострис обещал Максиму найти способ если не спасти, то хотя бы найти способ воскресить его дочь...
