Zavai Kahl, Prince of all Iceborn Dark Elves

The first dark elf to settle in the realm of Niflheim was Zavai Kahl. He was born in Svartalfheim to a powerful aristocratic circle which governed over the policies regarding ruling the Dwarves. The court was cruel in their decisions, and the young Zavai felt nothing but empathy for the Dwarves, both Light and Dark. When he pleaded on behalf of the Dwarves, The Dark Elves treated Zavai like an outsider and dismissed his childish request. This seeded a great, dark sadness in his soul which grew over time. When he was 14 winters old, he began to plot his escape and planned what he would do when was free. He wished to be free of the cruelty, and to oppose the regime of the ruling Dark Elves. He practiced magic in his down time, secretly coming to the court's Magician Major to learn the arts of Galdr and Seidr, and eventually Faeda, mastering all three over a few years. When he was 17, he left Svartalfheim, bringing with him his only childhood friend a powerful and terrible Kelpie named Eoch and as much dwarven equipment as the kelpie could carry. He used Galdr to create a portal and at once the two of them traveled outside the dwarven realm into the great unknown. The place the portal dropped them was the icy realm of fog, Niflheim. To save themselves from the cold which suddenly gripped the Dark Elf and his Magical mount, Zavai Kahl called fourth all of the might of the realms in a great and haunting song. When he sung higher than any human voice, a tall and invisible door burst forth, and behind the door he found safety. Eoch and Zavai attached ropes to the great doors and Eoch pulled them open with his tremendous strength. Inside was heaven, a sanctuary for the young Dark Elf and his mount. Great cliffs encircled a magically carved stone city, waterfalls fell from the cliffs and wonderful streams ran through the city, supplying life to tree, bush, and Elf. He at once named the pocketed city within the doors "Gra-Min-Ha", The Safe Place, and after the doors were closed, he explored this new realm and claimed it his. After twenty nights, Zavai Kahl grew lonely, and dreamed of building his city into a land of peace to rival Svartalfheim. The aristocrat Dark Elf performed Faeda and severed his right ear, giving its life into the largest snowflake he saw when he stepped outside and thus the first of the Iceborn Dark Elves was born. Zavai educated them in language and magical arts, in history and rhetoric, until the firstborn was ready to perform the magic of life giving themselves. From his first came a second and so on until the city was full of loyal and powerful Dark Elves, all waiting silently and patiently for the day to free the Dwarves. Until that day comes, they remain one of the most hidden and unique groups of beings in the nine realms.
