Niflheim

Niflheim

The realm of ice and fog. The northmost realm.

Geology

  • Tundra, glacier, mountain, frozen seas, roaring seas, mist.
  • Hvergelmir Spring can be found at the top of the tallest mountains in Niflheim. It provides water for the nine worlds.
  • The White is a wasteland of frost and ice. It is so cold here that any normal man would freeze in his step.
  • The Ice Sea is a great frozen sea which no normal boat can travel, but it is so shattered and craggy in ice that traveling by foot is difficult too.
  • The Free Sea is the other great ocean on Niflheim. It has magically rushing waves and currents which change direction constantly and turbulently.

Ecology

  • Very little plant life grows in Niflheim and what does usually isn't edible to people. The seas provide most of the vegetation as some seaweeds grow under the water of this frozen realm.
  • Some mystical creatures like giant snow owls and giant foxes can be found surviving here, along with other more obscure snow and ice and fog creatures.

Inhabitants

  • Nidhogg resides here, chewing on the root of Yggdrasil named Wisdom.
  • Some dark elves have made Niflheim their homes in the snows, ices and seas in basic but magical dwellings. Dark dwarves can be found in the various ice caves and chasms. Frost giants are sometimes spotted here as well as goblins, trolls and ogres.
