The Gnasc Plains

The Gnasc Plains stretch endlessly beneath a vast, open sky, a sea of golden grasses rippling in the wind. This great savannah, bisected by the winding course of Yrych’s Vein, is a land of boundless horizons, where ancient migration routes, hidden sanctuaries, and vibrant tribal cultures weave a rich and storied tapestry. Though the region has seen conflict, the four great tribes of the plains—the Asunara, the Danwata, the Khorvag, and the Khulwane—stand united in purpose, guardians of their ancestral lands against the ever-encroaching reach of the Ro’Gnesh Empire.

Yrych’s Vein, a broad and meandering river, carves through the heart of the plains, nourishing the land and those who call it home. Along its banks, a network of fishing villages thrives, their stilted huts perched above the water. Here, nets are cast at dawn, and woven baskets brim with the river’s bounty. In these villages, trade and storytelling flourish, the songs of the elders blending with the laughter of children. Herders roam between these settlements, driving cattle, horses, and plains bison to fresh pastures, their nomadic lifestyle shaping the rhythms of life across the savannah.

Dotted across the plains are the market crossroads, seasonal meeting grounds where the four tribes gather in peace. Marked by carved stone wayposts, these hubs serve as places of trade and diplomacy, where hunters bring pelts, artisans display their beadwork and woven tapestries, and travelers share news of the wider world. The scent of roasting meat and sun-dried herbs drifts through the air as warriors and elders alike barter over salt, leather, and crafted tools.

Beyond these peaceful enclaves, warrior training camps stand on the northern frontier, where the Khorvag and Khulwane hone their skills for the inevitable skirmishes with Ro’Gnesh. Here, the clash of steel and the rhythmic beating of war drums echo across the land. Young warriors test their strength in trials of endurance, their bodies marked with ceremonial paints that tell of victories past and battles yet to come. Lions prowl the outskirts, revered companions to the Khorvag, watching with knowing eyes as their two-legged kin prepare for war.

Hidden within groves and deep river bends lie the refuge settlements, places known only to those who need them. These are the sanctuaries of the wounded, the weary, and the displaced, where shamans whisper prayers to the spirits and healers work by firelight. Underground caches hold supplies for lean times, and woven branches conceal pathways known only to those guided by tradition and instinct.

At the sacred gathering places of the Danwata and Asunara, spiritual and healing retreats offer respite from the harshness of the world. Towering rock formations, secluded groves, and bubbling hot springs serve as sites of meditation and communion with the ancestors. Here, the veil between the Material Realm and the Aether is thin, and the voices of the past whisper on the wind. Shamans and wise women guide seekers through visions and rites, their songs harmonizing with the rustling grasses.

Further across the plains, well-traveled paths lead to scattered waystations and watchposts, simple structures of stone and wood where travelers find shelter and fresh water. These sites, maintained by all four tribes, stand as symbols of unity, offering respite for scouts and merchants alike. Their carved monoliths serve as waymarkers, guiding those who know the land toward safety.

Despite the ever-present threats beyond the plains, life here moves to the steady rhythm of the wind and sun. The four tribes, though distinct, share a deep reverence for the land and its cycles. They are not merely inhabitants of the Gnasc Plains—they are its stewards, its guardians, and its beating heart.
