The Asunara

The Asunara are circles of displaced Orisha who once called the Khule Desert home. Forced to migrate due to the expansionist Ro’Gnesh Empire, the Asunara now roam the plains west of Yrych’s Vein, occupying the opposite side from the Khorvag Orcari. Despite the historical animosity between Orcs and Elves, the Asunara and Khorvag have forged a mutual understanding rooted in shared survival strategies and respect for the land. This bond, born of necessity, reflects the lessons both groups learned in the harsh desert they once inhabited.

Cultural Identity and Philosophy

The Asunara are guided by a profound respect for the balance between the material realm and the Aether, believing that harmony with the land is essential to healing the Material Wound. Their philosophy emphasizes cooperation, healing, and mediation, with a preference to resolve conflicts rather than escalate them. They are natural guides and protectors, renowned for their wisdom, hospitality, and commitment to balance.

Key Cultural Practices:

  • Rituals at Sunrise: These ceremonies mark the beginning of a new day and symbolize the Asunara’s role as stewards and protectors.
  • Land Offerings: Before leaving a location, the Asunara offer symbolic gifts—flowers, water, or crafted items—as thanks and a promise to maintain harmony.
  • Storytelling and Oral History: Elders preserve the collective memory of the Asunara, passing down teachings and tales of their displaced homeland.

Key Landmarks

  • The Ember Ring: A natural ring of stones where the Asunara perform ceremonies and share stories, fostering unity and connection.
  • Narah’s Embrace: A sacred oasis where symbolic gifts are offered to honour the balance of life and the spirits of the land.
  • Temporary Gathering Spots: These serve as venues for festivals and councils, where tribes exchange wisdom, celebrate unity, and strengthen ties.

Relationships

Cheetahs, once near extinction in the plains due to predators thriving under Ro’Gnesh, have found refuge among the Asunara. Rescued from the brink of death, these animals now serve as pets and hunting companions, exemplifying the Orisha’s role as protectors and their deep connection to the natural world.

The Asunara are staunchly opposed to Ro’Gnesh, viewing the empire’s exploitation of the land and its people as an affront to balance and harmony. Their wisdom and resilience make them valuable allies, but they demand respect for their traditions and land in return. While they focus on healing and mediation, their commitment to opposing Ro’Gnesh is unwavering.

Despite historic tension between Orcs and Elves, the Asunara and Khorvag Orcari have developed a relationship built on practical and philosophical alignment. Both groups share a deep respect for the land and rely on each other to counter the ongoing threats posed by Ro’Gnesh. Though they maintain their distinct cultures, their cooperation reflects their shared survival strategies and a mutual understanding of the harsh environments they both navigate.

The Asunara embody the Orisha’s commitment to balance, healing, and guidance. Rooted in their respect for the land and the Aether, they have adapted to life in the plains with grace and resilience. Their cultural practices, connection to cheetahs, and alliance with the Khorvag Orcari highlight their ability to thrive despite displacement, making them vital stewards and mediators in the contested regions of the Gnasc Plains.
