The Centaur Rebellion Military Conflict in Fantasme Imagination | World Anvil

The Centaur Rebellion

Pre-War

For centuries up until this point, Centaurs were considered animals and used as slaves all around the Empire of Fanentous. There was a stigma behind them of them being cursed abominations who existed because of devil worship or even were the result of bestiality. Those born from humans were often kept in stables and treated horrendously, and for most, their only escape was to run away.   Many centaurs fled to an illegal camp in what would later be known as the Kheiron Badlands, an area that was a territory of the Empire, but had yet to become a proper part of it. The Centaurs were fine keeping to themselves here, as the area was not settled by the empire at all due to the land being difficult to work with, however the centaurs were able to make the land work and they thrived in the area.   But eventually they were discovered, and a group of soldiers were sent to burn the camp down and take any escaped slaves back to the Empire. This would be what triggered the start of the rebellion.

The Rebellion

The centaurs were able to save their home, but the attack left devastating damage and losses to the camp. The centaurs decided enough was enough, and that they needed to fight back.

Village Invasions

The Centaurs numbers were small, but they had a plan to get more. With the help of ally informants, they would make complex plans to enter villages with known centaur slaves and sneak them out, and then setting the slave owner's houses on fire before fleeing. These attacks happened all over the Empire and the centaur numbers were steadily rising, with each attack being more strategic than the last.   As word about these spread, more and more centaurs were emboldened to flee from their slave owners as well to find safety or join the fight themselves. But, this also meant larger towns would hire guards to defend the cities, resulting in skirmishes in the towns between the guards and the centaurs.

Kheiron

Those living in the badlands were now put on the defensive, as the Empire made more attempts to squash the rebellion. Civilians had to be trained how to fight in order to defend themselves against the frequent attacks by the empire. A proper village with defenses was built called Vermilion Canyon and the centaurs officially declared the territory to be their own country, dubbed Kheiron.   The centaurs argued that since their people were the majority of the population, the land was rightfully theirs. This declaration was obviously contested by the Empire.

Mysterious Allies

At some point, the centaurs were given aid in money and supplies by an at the time, unknown country called Kyl' Sune. Supposedly they wished to aid in the centaurs's quest to take back Kheiron from the Empire, as they disliked how much the Empire was taking over the Fantasme. They offered to continue aiding the centaurs as long as they were able to remain anonymous.   Their contributions aided trhe centaurs greatly, especially their mysterious Power-bomb Potions, which were able to temporarily grant the once magically inept centaurs brief instances of magical powers, giving them a better advantage on the battlefield.

The Invasion of the Palace

Near the end of the war, after many battles, the centaurs had freed much of the population in the Empire, established their new country, and even formed a powerful ally. They were going to make their final attack on the Empire count. A protest at the Fanentous Capital was being held at the palace by elves and humans who supported the rebellion. The centaurs took this opportunity to invade and make their way up to the palace themselves, where their leader, General Niwch'i, performed a speech reading off the centaur's declaration of independence from the Empire. All the while, the protesters protected them from the royal guard.   It was after this event that a peace treaty was signed by the Emperor for the sake of ending the war, allowing the centaurs their freedom if they returned to Kheiron and didn't come back.

"My men come to your doorstep demanding only out freedom and basic Tearrian rights. My people will no longer pull your plows, and carry your men. No longer will our children be slaughtered out of shame, their two halves buried in separate graves. We deserve respect, and a place to feel safe and happy. And if you will not give it, we will take it by force."

The centaurs returned to Kheiron, claiming victory, and though there was a lot of blood shed and many lives lost, they have finally got what they worked so hard to achieve, and they were ready to finally be able to build their nation in a stable, war-free environment.   Kheiron and Kyl' Sune remain allies to this day, and are no longer anonymous either. On the other hand, Kheiron and The Empire's relationship is still rocky, with only heavily monitored trade agreements being made. Empire military groups of any kind are not allowed in the Kheiron borders and are considered a threat.
