Ashe Blackfeather

Ashe "Birdie" Blackfeather is a human woman, bard, thief, and former member of The Guild in Baldur's Gate. Having run away from her abusive family at a young age, she joined the Baldur's Gate Circus Troupe to become a mildly famous acrobat. She later became a thief in The Guild, but left the organisation to pursue a career as an independent thief-for-hire.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Ashe Blackfeather was born in 1470 DR, in the Lower City of Baldur's Gate. She was a single child in a poor family, sharing a home with other families. Her parents often fought with each other, commonly neglecting young Ashe's care. With her parents' abuse, Ashe spent more time being taken care of by neighbours than her own family. To get by, Ashe often stole or pickpocketed food and coin.

By the age of eleven, Ashe felt confident enough to run away from her family. She left them one evening, and never saw them again. She spent the next few years on the street, sleeping in alleyways and basements, and stealing whatever she could to get by. She occasionally worked with other orphans, but for the most part stayed by herself. When she was fourteen, she found a home in the Baldur's Gate Circus Troupe, where her acrobatic skills were noticed.

Despite her young age, Ashe was immediately one of the best acrobats in the Troupe. Her dominance of the field was put to the test a year later, when Sariel Liadon joined the Troupe. The half-elf was just as skilled and charismatic as Ashe, and the two developed an intense rivalry. Sabotage was not uncommon between the two, both social and physical. Their rivalry persisted when they both joined The Guild, which the Baldur's Gate Circus Troupe was a cover for.

Ashe received training as a bard from The Guild, as she had a particular knack for music and magic both. She attained the skills approximate of those taught at a College of Lore, but with a stronger focus on stealth and thievery. Her acrobatics continued to improve over the years, and she developed a particular ability for seduction. All of her skills together made her one of the more reliable thieves in the Lower City.

Unlike Sariel, Ashe never found a permanent crew to stick with. She went between crews as the situation demanded, acting as a highly effective cat burglar. Over time, however, her rivalry with Sariel softened, then faded, as the two of them found more and more in common with each other. By the time Ashe was seventeen, the rivalry was far more of a friendly one than a hostile one.

Ashe ultimately bid farewell to Sariel in 1490 DR when the half-elf left The Guild. With her only real friend gone, Ashe eventually elected to leave herself, becoming an independent thief-for-hire, among other jobs. In 1493 DR, after reading of Sariel's exploits in The Storm King's Thunder, Ashe decided to try her hand at adventuring. She left Baldur's Gate for the first time in her life, venturing north to Waterdeep in hopes of contacting her friend and finding new work there. Since then, she has often traveled between Baldur's Gate and Waterdeep, trying to find whatever employment she can.

History

Sariel and Ashe were originally both members of the Baldur's Gate Circus Troupe, acting as acrobats and actresses. They developed a rivalry, constantly attempting to outdo each other. When they both joined The Guild, their rivalry only deepened. However, over time, their attitudes towards each other softened. After several years, they finally decided to sit down and really talk to each other for the first time - where they discovered they had far more in common than they thought. Since that day, the two have been friends, albeit mildly competitive ones.
