Half-elves (Cha'Tel'Quessir in Elvish) are humanoids born from the union of a human and an elf. They can take traits from either parent, and most often combine traits from both, such as human ingentuity and curiosity, combinted with elven senses and love of nature. Although neither trusted fully by elves or humans, half-elves often find themselves as ambassadors between the two races.

Darkvision. Thanks to your elf blood, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Fey Ancestry. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put you to sleep.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, Elvish, and one extra language of your choice.
Choose your half-elf's ancestry: drow, eladrin, moon, sea, shadar-kai, sun, wild, or wood. You can select either Skill Versatility or one other trait appropriate for your ancestry. This cannot be changed after character creation.
Skill Versatility (Any). You gain proficiency in two skills of your choice.
Drow Magic (Drow). You know the dancing lights cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the faerie fire spell with this trait. Starting at 5th level, you can also cast the darkness spell with this trait. Once you cast faerie fire or darkness with this trait, you can't cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest.You can also cast either of those spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.
Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).
Elf Weapon Training (Sun, Moon, Wood, or Wild). You have proficiency with the longsword, shortsword, shortbow, and longbow.
Cantrip (Sun or Moon). You know one cantrip of your choice from the wizard spell list. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for it.
Fleet of Foot (Wood or Wild). Your base walking speed increases to 35 feet.
Mask of the Wild (Wood or Wild). You can attempt to hide even when you are only lightly obscured by foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, and other natural phenomena. Swim (Sea). You gain a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.
