Sariel Liadon Character in Faerûn | World Anvil

Sariel Liadon

"Sariel's a great friend to have. She knows just about every single way to get you into or out of trouble."
Sariel Liadon (born 15 Marpenoth 1470) is a female half-elf adventurer. Born in the Feywild to an eladrin mother and human father, she was raised in an orphanage in Baldur's Gate for her earliest years. Later forced onto the streets, she became a notable thief and adventurer, helping to found the Ardent mercenary company. Since then, she has formed the Arrowheads adventuring group, and is its de facto leader.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Sariel is a fit and athletic half-elf. She is shorter and slimmer than average, and struggles to move heavy loads. She has high flexibility, perception, and hand-eye coordination as well.

Special abilities

Until relatively recent, Sariel had no innate magical talent, instead getting by as a thief. With her first expedition to the Feywild and meeting with Queen Titania, she formed a pact and gained the ability to cast magic. As a warlock, her spell selection and power compared to that of a trained magic user is limited, but Sariel also has the ability to use the Weave to form a bow made from pure magical energy, as well as its accompanying arrows.

Her spell selection is chosen to augment her existing abilities, with spells like invisibility, hold person, and misty step. In addition, her connection with the Feywild greatly augments her eyesight, allowing her to see perfectly in even magical darkness. Due to her fey magic and training, Sariel has an uncanny ability to wield any weapon she picks up. While she has training in some weapons, such as bows and daggers, she intutitively knows how to use anything she wields. However, as soon as she thinks about how she's wielding the weapon, her intuition breaks down, and she forgets how to use it.

Apparel & Accessories

Sariel wears a wide variety of clothing, with her choice depending on the situation she expects to find herself in. However, she does have one important rule - she keeps her legs uncovered as often as possible. This comes from her time in the circus where her outfit lacked any pants, and she decided to keep wearing outfits that way. While adventuring, she will always insist on good boots, regardless of her other clothing.
"I'm not putting those pants on."
— Sariel Liadon

Her typical adventuring outfit is a simple brown leather vest, shoulder pads, and faulds. She also wears leather bracers and gloves to protect her forearms, but leaves her upper arm uncovered. Sariel has a preference for expensive, comfortable leather boots. She usually wears them below the knee, and wears long stockings up to her thighs.

Sariel also owns a set of mithral half-plate, custom designed for her. This was at the request of her mother, who trains her in the ways of Shiere Knights. The armour has a fairly typical, if form-fitting torso section, including arm guards. However, she wears little more than a skirt, armoured boots, and stockings to protect her legs.

Sariel's cold-weather gear is one of the few times she'll cover her legs. It is comprised of a fur-lined tunic with a long-sleeved shirt underneath, a warm woolen shawl, brown tights over stockings, and fur boots. She wears this outfit during the late months of the year or when she's adventuring far up north.

While swimming, Sariel wears virtually nothing. Usually, it's nothing more than a set of a black underclothes. When adventuring, she is known to wear a belt with pouches, strap a diving knife to her thigh, and wear a specially-made backpack.

Sariel's most expansive part of her wardrobe is her fancy dresses, which she keeps at least a dozen of. They range from relatively modest (for her), all the way to leaving extremely little to the imagination. Her choice of dress is usually determined by her plans for the evening.

Specialized Equipment

Sariel is never far from a set of thieves' tools, whether on her person or waiting to be improvised from the environment. She also likes keeping a grappling hook handy, for quick ascents or manupulating distant objects. She also carries several magic items, the most important of which is her Bag of Holding, which she usually keeps folded up in a belt pouch. Other magic items she likes having on her person are her Cape of the Mountebank and Boots of Elvenkind.

In addition to various specialised tools, Sariel is also adept at using what appear to be random objects to their fullest extent - caltrops or ball bearings to slow opponents, sawdust to reveal invisible foes, a crowbar and shovel to make entry easier, among many other items stored in her Bag of Holding.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Sariel Liadon on the 15th of Marpenoth, 1470 DR. She was born in the Feywild, to an autumn eladrin mother and a human father - both minor members of Queen Titania's Summer Court. The pair didn't want their daughter growing up in the courtly intrigues of the Summer Court, so instead she was deposited at a reputable orphanage in Baldur's Gate at two weeks old.   Growing up in the orphanage wasn't the worst thing. Sariel had food, a warm bed, and loving caretakers. On the other hand, she was also the only half-elf in a house full of humans. Bullying by her peers pushed her to feel closer to her elven side rather than her human side. One of her caretakers knew elvish, so she learned that alongside common as she grew up. Moreover, during her semi-regular unsanctioned excursions out of the orphanage (sneaking out), she began picking up dwarvish. In addition, she admired the heroes and heroines of the books she read in her youth.   But all good things come to an end, as the orphanage burned down when she was twelve. Without anywhere else to go, she was forced onto the streets. However, she quickly found herself apt at pickpocketing and burglary. For a few years she was on the streets, until a chance encounter led her to join a circus. There, she had the opportunity to use her acrobatic skill for a more legal trade. Also in the circus, she met a young half-elf named Gael. The two got along very well, and it turned out he was a member of The Guild, the main thieves' guild of Baldur's Gate - the circus was simply a cover. Despite her better judgement, Sariel accepted Gael's offer to join it.
Initially, she plied her trade through nighttime cat burglaries, while spending the day performing acrobatics in the circus. As she grew older though, she discovered that the ability to charm people came to her very naturally - a combination of appearance and practice. Sariel rose through the ranks of The Guild, eventually being trusted with more delicate heists. Although she considered herself a thief, she did receive training in assassination - but she never put it to use during her time at The Guild. However, after the score of her life, Sariel bid farewell to Gael, the circus and The Guild, leaving before fortune swung against her.
"Unbutton your shirt more. They'll be too distracted to remember your face."

Again on her own, Sariel decided to get out of Baldur's Gate before the Flaming Fist or any authorities realised who she was. She ended up hitching a ride to Waterdeep, then making a living finding odd jobs around the city - caravan guard, barmaid, and salvage diver to name a few.   When she was 21, she encountered an aarakocra cleric named Aial Vock Tal, and the two became fast friends. After a couple of small adventures, they found a notice from the Baron of Nightstone requesting assistance in dealing with some giants. The Baron, the aasimar artificer Wislaw Jansobski, joined their party, and together the trio uncovered a plot to start a war between giants and the small folk of the Sword Coast.   During late 1492 DR, she ventured to the Feywild, following the directions of a mysterious dagger she came across. After passing numerous trials, she entered the city of Senaliesse, home of Queen Titania, the Summer Court, and her parents, Ander and Elama. Her mother convinced her to swear fealty to the Summer Queen, and Sariel became a warlock of the Summer Court.   On 10 Marpenoth, 1492 DR, she became a founding member of Aial's Ardent mercenary company, and continues to regularly conduct special requests for her friend. She also drew close to a half-drow, Nathxena Fey, that she recruited for the Ardent. In mid 1493 DR, she met a young bronze dragon named Zelifarn in Deepwater Harbor, who she quickly bonded with. Towards the end of the year, she discovered that her mother had adopted a half-elf named Enna - who she had met a few weeks prior and travelled to Senaliesse with.

In 1494 DR, Sariel, Valna Mellerelel, and Nathxena Fey formed a group they called the Arrowheads, which was an informal adventuring party within the Ardent. Soon, Enna Liadon and Sariel's new friend Emilia Leveva were invited in, and the group was made an official independent team within the Ardent.

Education

Although she never had a formal education, Sariel is rather intelligent when compared to the average orphan. She learned multiple languages, including how to read, at an early age, due to the dilligence of her caretakers. However, she lacks in known academic and magical knowledge, and instead prefers to 'figure it out' as she goes along. On the other hand, Sariel does possess a wealth of knowledge on thievery and adventuring, including lockpicking, escape artistry, secret codes, poisons, and even how to play a lute.

Employment

Sariel has had a number of previous jobs, both legal and not-so-legal. Her most impactful have been her careers as a circus performer, thief, and adventurer, but she's had experience in many other fields as well. Often, she uses her knowledge of a field to impersonate a legitimate worker, but sometimes she uses her skills for fun or actual employment. Some of these have included a barmaid, courtesan, dancer, and even a bard.

Her current profession is that of an adventurer, which she began in 1492 DR. After gaining experience traveling the Sword Coast and working for the Ardent, she formed a semi-independent adventuring group called the Arrowheads. She acts as the de facto leader of the group with a number of other adventurers. Many people who have heard of her exploits through the book Storm King's Thunder come to her for a variety of reasons, usually adventuring related.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Despite her young age, Sariel has accomplished a significant amount, even for a more experienced adventurer. Her acrobatics and stealth skills allowed her to conduct numerous difficult heists while in the Guild, making her very wealthy for a time. Thanks to her skills with bows and daggers, she has fought and defeated numerous powerful opponents, including giants and dragons. While traveling across the Sword Coast, her charms have won her numerous admirers, including at the heights of political influence in the region.

Failures & Embarrassments

Even with her skills, Sariel is far from infallible. While she is anything but frail, her lack of strength has meant she has been physically overpowered many times in her life. This was more common while she was thieving in Baldur's Gate, but still occasionally happens. Sariel's confidence sometimes becomes overconfidence, usually to her detriment. She regularly overestimates how long she can hold her breath while diving, causing her to sometimes lose consciousness. Her failures cause her to feel embarrassment over any other emotion, as she tries to take things in her stride.

Morality & Philosophy

On a cosmological level, Sariel can be described as "Chaotic Good". She is free-spirited, caring little for what others think of her, but goes out of her way to help people in need. She tends to pay little mind to laws and rules, only following them when it's convenient. She has a mild dislike for the wealthy, government authority, and especially guards, but not enough to refuse helping them if they ask (or especially if they pay her).

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Sariel is motivated by a sense of adventure and desire to do good. She likes to fight for the 'little guy', and doesn't allow the law to get in her way. This attitude was fostered by her nearly ten years of living on the streets and The Guild, where the law had little say or benefit for her. Like many people, Sariel is also driven by the lure of money, but won't allow a bribe to convince her to go against her beliefs or friends. She's brave and confident in her abilities, occasionally to the point of recklessness.   More recently, Sariel has become increasingly motivated by the desire to experience new things, exploring and adventuring simply for the sake of exploring and adventuring. She's recently become particularly interested in the ancient elven kingdom of Cormanthyr and especially its capital, Myth Drannor.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Sariel is especially gifted in various arts of infiltration, and very proficient when it comes to archery and acrobatics. Years of living on the streets as a girl and cat burglaring for The Guild have taught her the virtues of remaining silent and unseen, and she regularly applies those lessons both in and out of the field. Sariel is also very attractive, and is more than willing to exploit her looks in order to further her goals - this, coupled with her practiced speaking , means she is an expert at both persuasion and seduction. Although she isn't as strong as many of her peers, Sariel is still eminently capable when it comes to acrobatics and athletics, especially climbing. She has excellent balance, vision, and hand-eye coordination, making her deadly with a bow or dagger. Finally, Sariel possesses a remarkable flexibility which, coupled with her small stature, allows her to get into places most other adventurers or thieves cannot.   As mentioned earlier, Sariel isn't particularly strong. Although she's good at various athletics and gymnastics, her ability to push, pull, or throw a punch is limited. She tries to avoid situations where her lack of brute strength applies, but on occasion she's unable to lift certain objects or break free of restraints. Sariel also isn't particularly talented when it comes to reading people or acting insightfully. She finds it difficult to determine whether someone is lying to her, which has lead to people taking advantage of her trust several times.

Likes & Dislikes

Like almost everyone, Sariel has a favourite colour: green, and she likes applying it to what she wears. Her second favourite colour is silver, and her third favourite blue. Her favourite drink is red wine, which she only got to taste a few times growing up (her second favourite is cider). She doesn't have a favourite food, but does particularly enjoy beef and chicken. Her favourite hobbies are freediving, free climbing, drinking in taverns, and stargazing. Her favourite animals are dolphins, owlbears, griffins, and dragons.

Sariel loves being the centre of everyone's attention, almost always regardless of context - this leads her to dress scantily and act boldly, so the spotlight is on her. She also enjoys sharing a bed with someone overnight.   Sariel doesn't particularly have a least favourite colour, but if she had to pick, it would be pink. One of her biggest dislikes is being cold while sleeping, as it's something else that reminds her of her time on the streets. She also especially doesn't like wearing pants, but makes an exception during the cold months of the year. Sariel doesn't particularly have a fondness for the wealthy or nobles, but can put that behind her if they prove themselves willing to do good.

Virtues & Personality perks

In Sariel's mind, her biggest strength is her flexibility - physical and mental. Her experiences, skills, and physical capabilities combine to allow her to find a solution to any problem. Whether she likes the solution or not is a different story. She's also stubborn, and can't be easily persuaded from a goal once she's committed to it. Despite that, she's still flexible in how she chooses to achieve the goal, so long as she gets there in the end. In addition, Sariel is fiercely loyal to and protective of her friends, and can't be persuaded to turn against them.

Vices & Personality flaws

Sariel's biggest vice is the flipside of one of her strengths - her willingness and eagerness to engage in seduction. As much as she likes to seduce others, she doesn't realise how vulnerable she is to the exact same being used against her. She's nearly unable to ignore a pretty face, and more than once this has lead to negative consequences (waking up with no money, no clothes, or in a strange warehouse with neither and tied to a chair). Sariel's stubbornness can also lead her into trouble, when she becomes dead set on a destructive course of action. In the past, this has manifested itself in behaviours such as deciding to rob the wrong house, not knowing when to quit at gambling, or thinking she has more air in her lungs than she really does.
"Sometimes I think she gets a bit too excited about treasure. She's lucky one of us can breathe underwater!"

Social

Contacts & Relations

Sariel has a wide variety of contacts, both above and below board. Although she maintains some of her contact with The Guild, most of her contacts in Baldur's Gate are with those in the black market, rather than the core members of The Guild. In Waterdeep, however, Sariel has contacts within the ruling class of the city. Thanks to her charisma, she was able to secure access with high levels of government, including the ability to directly contact the Masked Lords on occasion.   In terms of specific people in power, during her time adventuring across the Sword Coast, she has met and helped a number of powerful people. As thanks for his rescue, King Hekaton of the storm giants named her a friend to all giants, and she can call upon his support if need be. She also helped stop a raid on Gauntlgrym by drow, putting her in the good graces of King Bruenor Battlehammer. Sariel has also aided Lady Laeral Silverhand in a number of matters, including investigating a cloud giant castle hovering above Waterdeep, and investigating a dragon in Deepwater Harbor. Lord Dagult Neverember took a liking to her nearly immediately when she visited Neverwinter, and Jarlaxle Baenre has flirted with her both times she visited Luskan.   The half-elf is also a member of the Harpers, but doesn't particularly devote much of her time to the faction. Instead, she passively assists Harper members whenever they make requests of her, rather than actively seeking out tasks from them. Sariel's main focus is on her membership in the Ardent, where she manages and organises the various intelligence assets the organisation maintains. However, she doesn't particularly like her duties in management, and usually delegates her tasks to others, preferring to go out and adventure on her own.
Sariel also has personal relationships with a number of people. Aial Vock Tal is currently her longest friend she maintains active contact with, having known him since 1491 DR. The two are fairly close, to the point that they often share a bed in Ardent Keep. Sariel also has a similar relationship with Nathxena Fey, who Sariel has known since late 1492 DR. The two hit off very quickly, often aid each other in various tasks and missions, and have since become extremely close. She's also somewhat friendly with Wislaw Jansobski, though their relationship is purely platonic and fairly professional. In addition to her personal relationships, she has a large number of casual acquaintances with various people throughout the Sword Coast.
"C'mon, Xena! When have I ever gotten myself into trouble!?"
— Sariel Liadon

Family Ties

For most of her early life Sariel lived in an orphanage owned by Darvin and Miri Bramblebuck. Although she deeply appreciated everything they did for her, she never truly viewed the two humans as her parents. While she was in The Guild, Sariel to some extent viewed her gang's leader, Grigor, as a father figure, though it's debatable whether he returned the view.   In late 1492 DR, Sariel ventured into the Feywild. There, she finally met her biological parents. Although she's only known them for a short time, she feels very connected to them, especially her mother - who is also an agent of Queen Titania. At times though, she feels that her mother acts a bit too much like herself when flirting with other members of the Summer Court. Her father is somewhat more distant, but Sariel still views him positively.

Religious Views

As a half-elf, Sariel was brought up in two religious worlds: the Faerûnian Pantheon, followed by most of the humans she grew up around, and the Seldarine, taught by her foster mother Miri. Due to her early life experiences with humans, Sariel embraces her elven heritage more strongly, preferring to worship the elven deities.   From the Seldarine, Sariel primarily follows Hanali Celanil, goddess of love, beauty, and the arts; Erevan Ilesere, god of mischief and change; and Solonor Thelandira, god of archery, hunting, and survival. To some lesser extent, she also occasionally prays to Alobal Lorfiril, Deep Sashelas, Zandilar, and, like most elves, Corellon Larethian.   However, Sariel is not completely beholden to solely the elven pantheon. To her, both the Faerûnian Pantheon and Seldarine can co-exist just fine. From the Faerûnian Pantheon, she sometimes worships Tymora, Sune, Mask, and Selûne.

Social Aptitude

Sariel is extremely confident and charismatic, and very extroverted. She rarely backs away from a social encounter, and loves to be the centre of attention. Her attire reflects this - she always shows off her body in order to draw attention to herself. Sariel is very skilled at persuasion, casually able to persuade in ways the average person would find difficult. This extends both to regular persuasion and seduction, but Sariel thinks she's more capable of persuasion when she's able to bring her allure to bear. She's also very good at deception, able to lie with ease. However, Sariel is not particularly talented when it comes to intimidation, owing to her small stature and non-intimidating looks.   Sariel follows whatever etiquette she needs to in order to get what she wants. She's equally adept when it comes to mingling with high society, getting drunk in a tavern, or sweet-talking a guard into giving up a password while in bed. She's also extremely confident, occasionally to the point of foolhardiness. More than once she's overestimated herself and ended up in a sticky situation.

Mannerisms

The first thing someone will notice when talking with Sariel is that she likes to flirt - a lot. In most situations, the way she talks and acts has a hint of flirtation or allure, be it from how she moves her hips to the near-permanent smirk on her face. In fact, the easiest way to tell when Sariel is focused on flirting is that she locks her eyes with her partner and does not waver. When she feels threatened, intimidated, or scared, she'll often double down on the flirtation as a defence mechanism. She also likes making light of situations, cracking jokes or acting sarcastically for humour. However, Sariel - despite her best efforts - is capable of being serious when the situation requires, such as in a life-or-death scenario.
"Guys, I know you like looking at a girl in her smallclothes, but maybe you could give me my clothes back, untie me, and put those knives away? Please?"
— Sariel Liadon

Hobbies & Pets

Sariel has a variety of hobbies, the majority of which are physical activities. Rock-climbing is a favourite of hers, as she has been climbing tall structures since she was a young girl. She particularly enjoys freeclimbing without any assistance or safety measures. Another physical hobby of hers is freediving - diving very deep underwater on a single breath, unaided by magic or equipment. Parkour is yet another hobby that Sariel enjoys, especially when she's racing Nathxena Fey across the rooftops of Waterdeep at night. During the winter months, Sariel enjoys ice skating, which she became quite good at in her younger years. Recently, Sariel has learned a practice from Tethyr involving balancing on a board while surfing atop waves, which she finds enjoyable. She has since adapted this practice to snow-covered hills and mountains, and taught her friends this practice.

In terms of less active hobbies, stargazing is another hobby she shares with Nathxena Fey and Emilia Leveva. Other hobbies of hers include going out for drinks with her friends, archery contests, or playing card games with her friends.

Speech

Sariel speaks in a confident, bright, casual, melodious manner, with an ever-present and somtimes unnoticable flirtatious inflection. At times, she can come across as bubbly and energetic. While she speaks somewhat quickly, she is always sure to fully enunciate her words, and doesn't mumble. She is most comfortable speaking in Elvish or Sylvan, but is fluent in multiple languages. Sariel doesn't raise her voice very often, usually only when surprised or very upset.

While she rarely admits it, Sariel is also very good at singing. Her preferred style is the soft, melodic singing often sung by elves.

History

"I know she's a thief, because she stole my heart."
— Nathxena Fey

Sariel and Nathxena met on 2 Uktar, 1492, in a tavern in Silverymoon. They quickly took a liking to each other, drinking and swapping stories. Nathxena was looking for a way out of Menzoberranzan, and Sariel was the first person the half-drow had ever felt she could trust. The next morning, Nathxena accepted Sariel's offer to join the Ardent.

The duo have been on multiple adventures, including getting a major criminal arrested by way of a fancy ball, surviving on a mystical island in the Feywild, and stopping the schemes of several giant lords. The two have become extremely close during these adventures, and rarely spend much time apart.

Nicknames & Petnames

Sariel's nicknames for Nathxena are usually just her name shorted to Nat or Xena. Nathxena's nicknames for Sariel are usually Sarry or Ell, also shortened forms of the latter's name.

Relationship Reasoning

While Sariel just liked Nathxena from the start, Nathxena found Sariel the first person she could really trust and open up with. While the two find each other very attractive, it's this unique trust and openness that Nathxena has with Sariel that really draws them together. This is compounded by the fact that Sariel was the first person to offer Nathxena a safe place to live and an exciting job. Over time, their shared experiences and hardhsips adventuring have forged an incredibly tight bond between the two.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

The two have a large number of similarities and shared interests. They share general goals of justice and freedom, as well as defeating various threats to the Sword Coast. Their strengths are also similar - acrobatics, skill at stealth, archery, persuasive talent, and attractiveness. Further, their weaknesses are aligned as well - a lack of physical strength, and both have a tendency to fall for a pretty face. They both share hobbies, such as rock climbing, archery, theft, sneaking where they shouldn't be, running on city roofs, and sharing a drink at the tavern.

Shared Acquaintances

Both Sariel and Nathxena are members of the Ardent, and both know most of the adventurers and staff in it. They both share a friend in Valna Mellerelel, who is a member of the Arrowheads. Both of the half-elves are also close friends with the young bronze dragon Zelifarn, regularly going on adventures together. Both are co-owners of The Bronze Dragon, and personally know all the employees well.

History

"Sariel's one of the most wonderful people I've ever met. Gods, I hope she never hears this."
— Emilia Leveva

Emilia and Sariel met in early 1494 DR in a tavern in Waterdeep. Sariel's other friends were busy that night, so she decided to strike up a conversation with who she thought the most attractive person in the room was - which happened to be Emilia (Emilia drinking red wine also helped). They talked for the entire evening, and ended up spending the next day together as well.

Sariel kept in close contact with Emilia, and after the founding of the Arrowheads, asked the human to join. Emilia accepted, and has since been one of the core five members of the group.

Nicknames & Petnames

Sariel's nickname for Emilia - and the name she prefers to call her - is Emmy. On the other hand, Emilia does not use any nicknames for Sariel, preferring to use her full name.

Shared Acquaintances

As members of the Arrowheads, both Sariel and Emilia are close friends with Valna Mellerelel, Nathxena Fey, and Enna Liadon. They are also friends with Aym Twinhorn and Zelifarn, associates of the Arrowheads.

History

Sariel and Valna first met in late 1492 DR when the latter signed up to join the nascent Ardent. Although Valna is over twice Sariel's age, the half-elf was much more experienced as an adventurer, having been involved in the events of Storm King's Thunder. Sariel took a liking to the wood elf when she first met her, and devoted time to training Valna.   Valna's skill lay in archery, and the two often practiced at night in the Ardeep Forest outside of Ardent Keep. While Sariel was an accomplished short-range archer, Valna quickly proved herself to be a masterful markswoman, hitting targets at extreme ranges with accuracy and power. Sariel has also attempted to teach Valna about various social skills, to surprising success.   Following the events involving the Ardent in 1493-94 DR, Sariel, Valna, and Nathxena Fey formed a semi-independent adventuring party called the Arrowheads.

History

Sariel and Enna bumped into each other in mid 1493 DR when the former complimented the latter's outfit. They began talking, and soon realised they were both adventurers. They agreed to keep in touch, but both somehow managed to avoid saying their surname. It wouldn't be until a month later, during the Autumn Equinox, that they ventured into the Feywild together and learned from their mother that they were adopted sisters.

The two continued to keep in touch and visit the Feywild together, and go on the occasional adventure. About a year later, Sariel invited Enna to join the newly-founded Arrowheads adventuring group. Enna accepted immediately.

Nicknames & Petnames

Enna occasionally refers to Sariel as 'Sis', but otherwise doesn't use nicknames. Sariel refers to Enna as 'En', especially when they're around Emilia Leveva, who Sariel calls 'Em'. Sariel also sometimes refers to her sister as 'Sis'.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

Enna and Sariel are very similar, though Enna is slightly taller and larger. They share the Liadon family's dexterity, endurance, and charisma, even though Enna is not a Liadon by blood. The sisters also share a strong distaste for pants, preferring short skirts and thigh-high stockings or boots to pants. The two enjoy spending time together in taverns, where Sariel can draw most of the attention away from Enna. Enna's dislike of deception softens when around Sariel, and the two occasionally engage in pranks or thieving together.

Due to her specialty as a bladesinger, Enna teaches Sariel in the arts of swordplay, magic, and dance. In return, Sariel teaches Enna stealth, charm, and fey magic.

History

Aial and Sariel met in 1491 in the city of Waterdeep. It was Aial's first major trip to the city by himself, and he accidentally ran into the half-elf, knocking her over. After helping her pick up her dropped items, the two later bonded over drinks in a nearby tavern and decided to stick with each other for a while. They took on some minor jobs and bounties around Waterdeep, but eventually a notice led them to the small town of Nightstone a few days away. It was there that the two met Baron Wislaw Jansobski, and the trio embarked on a quest to save the Sword Coast from the giants. After months of travel and adventure, the land was saved and the king of the storm giants rescued. Sariel and Aial continued to adventure together, and Aial used his newfound wealth to create the Ardent. Currently, Aial is the Lord Ardentor - the leader of the Ardent - while Sariel is his confidant.

Nicknames & Petnames

While Sariel often calls Aial "Feathers", referring to his being an aarakocra, Aial always uses her name instead of a nickname. In private though, Aial refers to her as "Little Wing".

Relationship Reasoning

Sariel and Aial have been friends essentially from the moment they met. Their relationship only grew over the several months travelling together, preferring each others' company to that of the noble Wislaw. Since the end of their big adventure, they have continued to spend time together as members of the Ardent.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

Adventuring is the strongest common bond that unites Sariel and Aial. Aside from that, a shared interest the two have is that of magical arts and spellcasting. Aial occasionally spends time attempting to teach Sariel how to use her magic, as her aptitiude is fairly limited compared to his.

Sariel and Ashe were originally both members of the Baldur's Gate Circus Troupe, acting as acrobats and actresses. They developed a rivalry, constantly attempting to outdo each other. When they both joined The Guild, their rivalry only deepened. However, over time, their attitudes towards each other softened. After several years, they finally decided to sit down and really talk to each other for the first time - where they discovered they had far more in common than they thought. Since that day, the two have been friends, albeit mildly competitive ones.

History

Rynor and Sariel were introduced to each other by their mutual friend Aym Twinhorn in 1493 DR, at a tavern in Waterdeep. They hit off very quickly, bonding over a mutual history adventuring and strong attraction towards each other.

While Sariel's work with the Arrowheads keeps her busy, she finds time to regularly visit Rynor at his townhouse. When Rynor runs low on money, he contacts Sariel to join him adventuring.

Sariel has become the inspiration for the main character of Rynor's "Domeris" series of stories, as the rebel heroine Sybille Luden.

History

"Sariel, do you have any 'fashion tips' for me? I think I would look good in a cape."
— Zelifarn

Sariel and Zelifarn met in mid 1493 DR while the former and Nathxena Fey were investigating Deepwater Harbor at the request of the city government. Zelifarn had discovered a strange metallic vessel at the bottom of the harbour, and request their help in investigating. Sariel immediately assisted the bronze dragon, and the two have been friends ever since.

Since then, Sariel and Zelifarn have spent a significant amount of time getting to know one another and training for adventure. In early 1494, they and Nathxena set out to deal with a number of giant lords still plaguing the Sword Coast. When that was completed, Zelifarn was invited to join the Arrowheads as an honorary member upon its founding.

Nicknames & Petnames

While Zelifarn is still learning the intricacies of humanoid communication, Sariel has already adopted a nickname for her new friend: "Zee" or "Big Zee".

Commonalities & Shared Interests

Sariel and Zelifarn love nothing more than adventuring. Sariel is light and small enough to fit on Zelifarn's back as he flies or swims, and the two of them regularly set out to battle evil-doers and acquire treasure. Sariel also accompanies Zelifarn whenever he visits the underwater communities of Deepwater Harbor, even if her lung capacity limits how long she can stay at once.

Shared Acquaintances

Nathxena Fey is Sariel's girlfriend and an acquaintance of Zelifarn, thanks to her assistance investigating the vessel at the bottom of Waterdeep's harbour. Nathxena has also joined the duo on a quest to rid the Sword Coast of a number of dangerous giant lords. Since the formation of the Arrowheads, they have come to regard Zelifarn as a close ally and friend.

Description

Sariel grew up on the streets of Baldur's Gate, unaware of her half-eladrin heritage. A jack of many trades, she wields her weapons, shadows, magic, and a revealing dress with equal ease.

In combat, Sariel will attempt to hide, moving around the battlefield and striking from unexpected angles with her bow, using her elven accuracy as much as possible. If she can stay hidden, she casts hex on the biggest target on the battlefield. If she can't remain hidden, she casts darkness on herself, using her Fey's Sight to see through it while others cannot. If directly attacked, she uses Misty Escape and misty step to evade her enemies.

Ideals

"Make a new friend instead of a new enemy. Life's better that way."

Bonds

"I'm in it for fortune, glory, and having a good time with people I like."

Flaws

"I'm a sucker for a pretty face."

Special Equipment. Sariel wears a pair of boots of elvenkind and a cape of the mountebank. She can summon a magical stirring dragon's wrath shortbow, and wields a pair of +1 daggers.
Pact of the Blade. Sariel can summon any simple or martial weapon, or her dragon's wrath shortbow, as an action. Any weapon summoned in this way is considered a +1 weapon, and can act as a focus for her spells. If a weapon requires ammunition, it is provided. Her dragon's wrath shortbow and any weapons summoned through this feature are made from magical energy and can only be wielded by her. Sariel uses her Charisma modifier for attack and damage rolls with her summoned weapons.
Fey Ancestry. Sariel has advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put her to sleep.
Evasion. If Sariel is subjected to an effect that allows her to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, she instead takes no damage if she succeeds on the saving throw, and only half damage if she fails. She can't use this trait if she's incapacitated.
Sneak Attack (1/turn). Sariel deals an extra 14 (4d6) damage when she hits a target with a weapon attack and has advantage on the attack roll, or when the target is within 5 feet of an ally of Sariel that isn't incapacitated and Sariel doesn't have disadvantage on the attack roll.
Second-Story Work. When Sariel makes a running jump, the distance she covers increases by a number of feet equal to her Dexterity modifier (+4 feet).
Elven Accuracy. Whenever Sariel has advantage on an attack roll using Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma, she can reroll one of the dice once. In addition, attacking at long range doesn't impose disadvantage on her ranged attack rolls, and her ranged weapon attacks ignore half cover and three-quarters cover.
Fey’s Sight. Sariel can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 120 feet.
Armor of Shadows. Sariel can cast mage armor on herself at will, requiring no material components.
Spellcasting. Sariel is an 8th-level spellcaster. Her spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 15, +7 to hit with spell attacks). She regains her expended spell slots when she finishes a short or long rest. She knows the following warlock spells:
Cantrips (at will): mage hand, minor illusion, prestidigitation
1st-4th level (2 4th-level slots): darkness, dimension door, dispel magic, hex, hold person, invisibility, major image, misty step, summon fey

Actions

Multiattack. Sariel makes two attacks, or three with her daggers.
Stirring Dragon's Wrath Shortbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, range 80/320 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d6 + 5) piercing damage and 3 (1d6) lightning damage. On a critical hit, the target and all creatures within 5 ft. of it take an additional 5 lightning damage.
+1 Daggers. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d4 + 5) piercing and 2 (1d4) poison damage.
Fey Presence (recharges after a short rest). Each creature in a 10-foot cube originating from Sariel makes a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the creature is charmed or frightened by Sariel (her choice) until the end of her next turn.

Bonus Actions

Fast Hands. Sariel takes the Dash, Disengage, Hide, or Use an Object action. In addition, she can use this bonus action to make a Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check, or use her thieves' tools to disarm a trap or open a lock.
Steady Aim. Sariel gives herself advantage on her next attack roll on the current turn. She can use this bonus action only if she hasn't moved during this turn, and after she uses the bonus action, her speed is 0 until the end of the current turn.

Reactions

Uncanny Dodge. Sariel halves the damage that she takes from an attack that hits her. She must be able to see the attacker.
Misty Escape (recharges after a short rest). When Sariel takes damage, she can use her reaction to turn invisible and teleport up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space she can see. She remains invisible until the start of her next turn or until she attacks or casts a spell.

Goodness me! This is a great article, you've got a lot of detail there! I think a lot of people who are bullied for who they are, will further grasp onto their identity, so I sympathise with Sariel wanting to explore her elven side further. It must have been difficult to reunite with her biological parents. I wonder how exactly how that meeting went, and how the court view Sariel's past?

Thank you! I've put a lot of effort into this article. To answer your questions, it was a long and tearful reunion between the three. As for the Summer Court, while they don't view non-Fey as true equals, Sariel is useful to them as an agent.
