battle of chekovic
The Conflict
Prelude
for the best part of 2 year the verainberg offensive into the twin sultanates was slow. the resolve on commander like ivan 2nd and Ion pasha. but eventually the The verianberg imperial army broke the dead lock and entered the heart land of setercha. part of the main invasion force were the elite troops of 9th corp. 9th corp was made up of 3 regiments of the imperial guard including 5th Imperial guard Regiment renown across the empire from bravery. by September 69YBCW 9th corp rested on the right flank of the invasion force. this flank was close to the verainberg forces invading from magara. Ivan realized that this had to be prevented and the prince made preparation to attack the resting troops of 9th corp. ivan assembled a force of 20000 of the best troops. his cavalry were also very strong. the center of the attack was on the farming hamlet of chekovic where 9th corp was resting. Ivan organised a force of 20000 men and marched then east with great haste in order to avoid the rain. by the time they arrived the there able to conceal there movement well that the verainberg forces believed only a small forces had come to fight them so there was no alarm in the camp of the 9th corp commander count Fredrick Louis hallsberg of zherik.
Deployment
The Engagement
Day 2- with all the outlaying positions know undefeated the seterchan forces surrounded the 9th corp on all sides. Fredrick Louis however was confident in two thing. 1st was that he knew reinforcements where a weeks march away. 2nd was that the forces under his command could if needs be brake out. Ivan knee this and so sent a force of 2000 men east to defend against the coming reinforcements. He ordered up all his guns and began a bombardment of the town. He had his men dig trenches and anti cavalry traps. Fredrick responded by building his own trenches and using he guns to rain counter battery fire down upon Ivan’s forces. Fredrick then ordered 2 imperial guard regiments To try and brake out in the weakened north part of the siege. The fighting was bloody. The seterchan troops held out but suffered badly. The 2 imperial guard regiments where badly mauled. That was the only attack of the day.
Day 3-Fredrick Louis by this time was getting ready to sit and wait. He knew reinforcements where in the way. He men however the troops of the important guard where getting restless. The town had been stripped of supplies when the garrison retreated with all the people and the 9th corp supplies where running low. Men where eating a third of what they had been and they where running low on shot and powder. Even worse was that they no longer had French flint for the muskets. Several cannons where also out of action due to over firing and others where beginning to brake. The seterchans on the other hand where safe in there trenches. They had plenty of supplies. They however where running low on time. The previous night word had come from the splinter force sent away to prevent the imperial reinforcements from reaching them. They had been defeated and where retreating. Ivan knew he had to act. He first ordered his artillery to rain fire down on the northern part of the siege line and after about three hours he sent forward 7000 men. He lead the charge once again. The imperial guard buckled and broke retreating into the town. Fredrick Louis rallied men from the southern part of town to plunge the gap which only weakened the southern part allowing the seterchans to charge and brake the siege line in the south. The Main Street was occupied by men of the 12 nis sharpshooters who dominated the town allowing for the rest of the troops to go in. Fredrick Louis personally took to the field on his golden stallion. He however was shot through the led leaving major general Milan dragovich took command. He however was unfit for the task and after another hour of fighting he surrendered the corp to the seterchans.
