Ashen Veil

Continent Government Ruler Capital
Bestia Theocracy Antipope Mauer Baros Thinn
The Ashen Veil is a blighted wasteland where each step could take even the most careful traveler to The Grey and back again. Shrouded in perpetual clouds that regularly dump Shadowfall, rain storms that are known portals to The Grey, these are not the only natural portals to that monochrome plane. The abundance of tears in the veil that separates the two results in numerous horrors escaping in both directions.   Thought to be the result of some horrible ritual in an age long lost, this plateau on the eastern end of Koraga in The Bestian Grand Alliance has only one permanent settlement, which serves as its de facto capital. Thinn is a twisted mass of knotted trees that grow through and around crenulated buildings adorned with flying buttresses. Even when color is present, the grey and black stone mined from the quarries is mixed with soot and tar, which gives everything a darkened pall.   The people of the Ashen Veil tend to be dhampir, earth genasi, and creatures no longer considered humanoid. In some cases, the undead serve as thralls, and a council of vampires that worship the Sanguine Pantheon of Jilkathstirei, Caidence, Apothus, and The Red King rule under the ever-watchful eye of Antipope Mauer Baros. The Antipope is perhaps the most gifted hemomancer on Enos, and is known to trade secrets of his craft in return for food for his people. This, of course, is often living beings.   The whole of the Ashen Veil is surrounded by cliffs that slip down to the sea hundreds of feet below. While it can be accessed by land to its west, seldom does anyone enter from outside without a purpose. No natives of the country have ever set foot on Bestian soil without the ground rising up and swallowing them whole, so the few people from this bruised land who have escaped did so via teleportation magic or a miraculous and desperate dive from the cliffs.
