Enos

Scope

The motivation behind building Enos

Building Enos out is an excercise in trying to blend together all the various themes, ideas, and story points in a way that gives verisimilitude to the world

The goal of the project

If nothing else, players getting enjoyment out of a unique and thought-out world.

Enos's Unique Selling point

What if the whole world had been on the brink of war for longer than our recorded history? What if dragons ran everything behind the scenes, unable to surface?

Theme

Genre

The world is squarely in the genre of fantasy. There are steampunk elements in places, and more than its fair share of cosmic horror.

Reader Experience

The world should feel electric - like everything could go wrong at any moment.

Reader Tone

Enos is, generally speaking, an absolutely terrible place to live. It's an endless Cold War, every single person of importance sees in shades of grey, and half of the gods literally do not care about their devout.

Recurring Themes

The world is dark. Things could go south at any moment. Politcal strife is everywhere. The deeds of one man really can hold the world together.

Character Agency

There's nothing the players can't change, for better or for worse. Everything is a powderkeg, and it won't take much to push it either way.

Focus

Military: The Queendom of Arnast has necessitated the development of a system of Grand Alliances to combat their growing threat, and this cold war has raged for nearly 8000 years.
Intrigue: Dragon mafias run the world from the shadows.
Gender Relations: Women are responsible for a vast majority of the significant historical events.
Technology: Between the rise of industry in Centurion and Elken and the developing supertechnologies in Indai, there is always a chance that a power imbalance can set everything aflame.

Drama

The drums of war are being beat by ultranationalist factions in the capital of Centurion.
A major blight has recently killed a third of plant and humanoid life worldwide.
There are two remaining Dying Queens, and it is said that with their death, demigods will again roam Enos, laying waste to all.
The xenophobic drow of Indai threaten to obliterate life with their advanced technology the moment they shed their sunlight curse.
The illithid, long-thought irrelevant and nearly extinct, are beginning to worry the kinds of circles that keep an eye on that sort of thing.
Personal drama abounds in each of the PCs lives - drama that will no doubt tie into larger plot points.
