Personal history

Letarian Villanova was born in a small hamlet outside of Huvora during one of his father's hunting excursions. The wealthy banker invited his immediate family, their entire entourage, and their medical staff to guarantee he would not miss the birth of his son. Soon after being born, Letarian was placed in the finest preschools available. He spent his free time outside of class learning with his father how to conduct the family business and the value of a single copper coin. Their family had always come from money, but they aspired for more. Beginning with Letarian's great-grandfather, Hroadant Villanova, the family had begun a generations-long scheme to accumulate wealth and power and enter into The Assembly. The Villanova family was repeatedly snubbed for membership into the exclusive rulership class on the terms of both funds and connection. Their family had always been seen transparently as power-hungry and conniving and others within The Assembly avoided them on principle. Letarian was determined to be the first person in his family to see their ambitions become reality.   Quickly after graduating from Ressex he developed a new model for the distribution of magic weapons and items to adventurer's guilds that allowed him and his family's business to cater to lesser established guilds like the The Last Chance Lancers. Most banks were too cautious to take the risk on smaller organizations losing or failing to repay the fees for leased items, but Letarian's desires drove him to discard those concerns and lend items at highly favorable rates even to novice adventurers. There were a fair share of losses, but the incredible profit he made drew the attention of a businessman strictly concerned with ability over reputation, Assemblymember Cromwell Cresthart. The two entered into a business arrangement, expanded the operations of the Villanova family banks, and created new businesses together.   Cresthart vouched for Letarian many times and positioned him to enter the Assembly many times, but was outvoted or outbid by the other members for years. Only after the death of a sitting member, Iyllas Seithwell, was Villanova given a chance to purchase membership. After a lifetime of hungering for the part, he was finally allowed to sit at the table of the Commonwealth's rulership. However, it was not meant to last, following Villanova's confirmation as a sitting, dues-paying member, a vote was called within a year to reduce the size of the Assembly from 23 to 17. The fee for membership exploded, and many were removed from power, including Letarian. Ever the caring friend, Cresthart set to devising a plan to restore his friend to power, a scheme that he determined would forever indebt Letarian to his ends. He established a new office in the township of Huvora, the position of governor. Though not the seat of power he was after, it would do as a stepping stone, and Cresthart quickly nominated Villanova to the position knowing that he would become a peer again in no time. Then, Villanova's worst fears came true: The Three Crown War. In the aftermath of this enormous conflict, the Assembly was completely dissolved and the Commonwealth fell into individual states--Letarian would never again be an Assemblymember. Determined to grasp power despite this setback, Letarian set to work in Huvora, using his considerable wealth and business relationships to consolidate power over the course of 3 years between 1099 and 1102. With Huvora's location, size, and existing infrastructure, it quickly became the largest of the Western Settlements. This growing nation-state needed someone to oversee it, and Letarian Villanova's resume as governor made him the clear choice. Over time, through a series of acquisitions and concessions, more power flowed into the governor's office. He retitled himself President in 1114, serving until he died in 1120. He was quickly succeeded by his son, Alphonse, who had been raised from birth to become the next reigning political leader of Huvora, extending Villanova rule long into the future, just as his father and his father's father had always wanted.

Education

Letarian attended many prestigious schools in The Commonwealth of Anbhor, and did his graduate studies at the illustrious Ressex University in his home of Huvora. His bachelor's was in Adventure Loot Taxation and Guild Accounting while his master's was in Magic Item Banking, Loaning, and Distributing.
