Structure

Early in the Assembly's history, a tradition was begun of shrinking the size of its membership every two or three decades, and spread whatever resulting loss of fees around to its remaining members. Each Assembly became smaller and smaller, with only the incredibly wealthy able to sit among them. The final Assembly was just 17 strong, and its membership requirements exceeded 250 million gold pieces per position. That money was then pooled together and used for funding in every settlement across Anbhor, everything West of Spirix. Among the members was a group of 7 who all cooperated in their business to the point they were essentially one entity. This superblock was the largest among the Assembly and getting them to agree to any piece of legislation was an absolute necessity--a trait that earned them the title of Bargain Barons.

Public Agenda

The goal of the Assembly is simple, drive development and progress throughout Anbhor. A common refrain among the merchant class is that a rising tide lifts all boats. What is in the interest of the Assembly aligns with the common man, and solid economic performance is the key to sustainable growth for all those that call Anbhor home.

History

In the earliest days of the proto-Commonwealth, what would come to be known as Huvora was the largest settlement on the continent. As one of the few stable environments to live, many traveled from far away places to secure their future. Without an organized structure to accommodate those migrating, Huvora fell in on itself in its infancy. A singularly wealthy noble donated the entirety of his coffers to those around him.  By E.Y. 2003, the town had begun on its journey to regain what was lost and rebuild what had fallen.   So began a long tradition of generous contributions from the monied class. Over the years, this tradition coagulated and mutated into a government structure completely ruled by donations. Historians debate between themselves, but consensus suggests the first ideas for "The Assembly" were advocated before E.Y. 1899 and adopted by E.Y. 1864.

Foreign Relations

The Commonwealth has described its governmental structure as "freeing" and "empowering personal choice". The country's detractors and neighbors prefer to call it fascist and authoritarian.   Despite The Commonwealth's solid political relationships, it has faced its fair share of criticism and hesitancy for its unabashed proximity to a dictatorship.
