House Tollenaar

Descended from a family of knights, originally in the house guard of the Imperial Family, serving among other things, as the chief Tax Collectors prior to the 2nd Conquest. With the coming of Waarheid and the eastern expansion of the Empire, the van Tollenaar family distinguished themselves. Their service, and the Imperial family wishing to renew its security in Kongression by raising those loyal to the Imperial Family, raised the van Tollenaars to Margrafs, giving them the far-flung border of the empire to develop and defend.
Dern's resources and one of the few 'safe' trading routes overland to the far east, developed the province into a strong financial base for the family to maneuver and prosper, among the new blooded nobility. The family has been generally been ardent supporters of the Imperial family, though in recent generations, their cosmopolitan nature has begun to sway them towards more republican beliefs.
