The Right Honorable, Ser Lodewijk Douwe Derk Carel van Tollenaar, Margraf of Dern

The Right Honorable, Ser Lodewijk Douwe Derk Carel Van Tollenaar

Of among the elder statesmen of Kongression, Lodewijk van Tollenaar was a young man when he took the Electorship and march of Dern, as Margraf. Holding the eastern border from incursions from the Fey and the forces of Choas, he was ill-prepared for the death of Greyland II but decided to stoically focus on the advancement of his own march and vassals, assuming the succession of the Emperial Seat would be resolved quickly. The extended absence and infighting over succession, followed by the death of many of his peers in the years to come, further muddling the matter, caused Lodewijk to fall into the Republican faction of the electors and began making ties with many other elector families, in particular, the wealthy and influential Lijfeigene family, with whom he married into through his wife Margrafina Savanne Daven van Tollenaar.   While anachronistic in his dress, style, and manner, Lodewijk was a major investor in trade, merchants, and the Guilds, as well as a patron of the Fencing schools and Guilds in particular. His ideas of divesting power from the imperial seat and into Kongression, along with his strong sentiments of Noblesse oblige made him a political minority, but none the less, a powerful one in the body of Kongression.
