When Waarheid looked upon the Empire he knew that it would need hands capable of defending the Builder’s great work against the encroaching Chaos. He breathed holy flame over worthy knights and warriors who held the Builder in their heart along with love for the Empire and infused them with dragon’s blood. It was then that Albrecht Bauer was elevated from a humble peasant man-at-arms to an ennobled knight of the Empire.
While other knights and commanders may have looked down on Albrecht for his humble origins he slowly earned their respect by throwing himself headlong into defense of the Empire. Whether it was the will of the Builder, sheer doggedness, or the devil’s own luck Albrecht survived and often won.
During a campaign to wrestle eastern lands from heretics and apostates Albrecht finally fell. In his final charge, Albrecht and his men were able to prise open the battlelines allowing the van to rout the enemy. Impressed with his zeal, accomplishments, and sacrifice the Emperor decreed that his family line should hold the lands won that day and granted his eldest son the title of Freiherr von Dunkelwald.
Albrecht’s line, now styled as “Kühnbauer,” still resides as the Barons of Dunkelwald to this day. Loyally serving the Markgraf of Dernstadt and offering aid to the Viscount of Moerasuitzicht.
