Molte Cloudberry

This is a rare and popular fruit bearing plant which can be found throughout Emynea's northernmost lands, especially Skaney. They are most famous for their elusivity and their tendency to summon or transform into fog, passing right through one's hands. Those with Ylixa's Charge can even imbue these clouds or fog with acid! Outside of pollination and the brief window in which they produce fruit, cloudberries protect or conceal themselves from would be grazers or cultivators using their magic. Thanks to this, they can only be found in the wild.

First Ability

Vekaltor's Aura
Thanks to Vekaltor's Aura Able to generate or summon a given kind of weather from Vekaltor's Plane. Most cloudberries summon clouds, fog or snow. The specific kind differs by individual but this abilty is mostly used to obscure the caster until its fruit ripens.

Vekaltor's Slip
When activated, Vekaltor 's Slip make it so that anything that touches the caster will cause that part of their body to turn into clouds, fog or snow, most physical matter passing right through. This is automatic, their body converting back to normal as soon as contact ceases. Cloudberries instinctually use this while their berries are ripening or in response to overgrazing.
Second Ability

Beranok's Charge
Those with Beranok's Charge can absorb electricity from their environment or magic and store it inside their bodies without limit. They can convert this to magic energy, strengthen their body with it or re-release it like an aura. However, they cannot produce their own electricity, reliant on an outside source and vulnerable when they run out. Most commonly inherited by cloudberries living in Skaney, especially in Eldingfjord and þorreyjar.

Ylixa's Blood
Thanks to Ylixa's Blood, an acid, chemical or enzyme runs through their bodily fluids, usually in its resin and fruit. Which acid can differ by strain or individual but acids are the most common in cloudberries. Those with this ability are known to be particularly sour! However, more dangerous strains exist which can be harmful or even lethal to those without Ylixa magic. Despite this, these are considered a delicacy to Raegeric himself who enjoys the uncertainty of what each berry might carry what acid. Used mainly by cloudberries to attract certain acid-immune animals to disperse their seeds.

Iska's Shield
Cloudberries with Iska's Shield are immune to negative effects or damage from all ice magic and naturally occurring ice and cold temperatures, no matter how severe. Most commonly inherted by cloudberries living in arctic biomes like the Frozen Wastes and Rossiya.

Anatomy

Leaves alternate around the stem with 5-7 soft lobes on straight stalks. Each mature plant will form 5-25 berries. Surprisingly, cloudberries are a member of the rosaceae family and are a kind of bramble.

The most common variant, having acid magic, are closer to a golden color than amber.

Cloudberries grow only in the wild and known cloudberry locations are well guarded and regulated by Ostmen in Skaney as they are a favorite delicacy of their deity, Raegeric. They might also be found in the Tenebrous Chain, northern Rossiya, the Frozen Wastes and parts of northern Yaxiya, growing in surprisingly harsh conditions. Cloudberries prefer cool, moist alpine or even arctic environments, growing amid tundras, mountains, moorlands and alpine forests. It most prefers peat bogs, marshes, wet meadows, tundra and high altitudes of 4,600 ft (1400 m), growing best in acidic and nutrient poor soil.

Stolon
This plant has both male and female specimens and needs to be polinated to produce fruit, a popular source of food for many butterflies and moths. Its seeds are distributed by birds and mammals who consume its fruit but it can also propogate itself through its own root systems or through cuttings, resulting in clones of the parent plant. A slow grower, it takes seven years for cloudberries to bear fruit. Berries can be found from July to mid-August, many of these berries containing or producing acids which are dangerous or too sour for unwanted foragers but safe if not desireable for local animals which reguarly propogate its seeds.

Uses

Because they are so rare and sought after, cloudberries are usually frozen and reserved for special meals. In addition to its unique flavor, cloudberries are actually rather healthy, rich in vitamins, acids and other minerals, especially vitamin. Considered a delicacy, cloudberries are usually made into jams, juices, tarts and alcohols if not used as toppings. Ripe cloudberries are soft and juicy with a tart and tangy flavor, becoming creamy and sweet when over-ripe. Cloudberries picked from Syremyr or the Tenebrous Chain are known to be incredibly sour, one of the sourest fruit in all of Emynea! But cloudberries become savory when stewed and can take on a spicy scent when made into jam. Often cloudberries are used as a topping for ice cream, pancakes and waffles or mixed with whipped cream and sugar to make multekrem (cloudberry cream). Multeyoughurt is also popular, berries or jam being mixed into yoghurt, while distant cultures from the Continent Beyond usually mix cloudberries with meats, fats and oils. Some Ostmen will even make cloudberry pies. When made into an alcoholic drink, cloudberry has a strong taste and can be very sweet. Some of these drinks include lakkalikoori, akvavit and chicoutai.
