Soft March Mines
History
Originally founded in 687 by House Emberforge, after a team of dwarven prospectors discovered flammable pitch in the march. The flammable pitch was refined to be used as a weapon of war. The value of the pitch soon made permanent settlement a veritable gold rush. For the next 100 years the settlement grew quickly, up to 20, 000 people one of the largest towns in Belkar. After House Aquilar siezed the royal title and split the dwarven house, the newly created House Ironhelm was gifted Soft March Mines. The town, with renewed intrest from the newly established house, grew quickly again over the next 150 years to its current size. The city is now one of the largest in Belkar, and its pitch rigs continue to pull the flamable sludge out of the riverbank.
Population
Though settled by dwarves, the city has become diverse as all maner races gather around a source of wealth. Today the town is 30% dwarf, 25% Human, 15% gnome, 15% Elf, 10% Hobgoblin and 5% other.
Historic racial grudges plague this city, yet its riches continue to draw those from all over Belkar.
Economy
The pitch rigs continue to be the focus of the city, though ancillary industries. A famous siege works for example, attracks talented engineers from across the continent and beyond - as the engineering on the pitch rigs seems to transfer well to siege engineers.
