A Review of the Great Powers of the Known Realms

A companion of Belros Azul in his mortal life, Yzgaroth is one of the Demonlords of Rancor, ruler of the Seventh Layer of Hell and the Prince of the Damned. Often taking a formidable demonic appearance, it is said that Yzgaroth was a powerful monk during his mortal days. He ascended during the Age of Shadows, serving Belros as King of Hell.

Yzgaroth was one of the first to join Belros' scheme to overthrow Belegor, alongside Baphomet and Djzargo. Later they were joined by Aeltruad, and together they scoured the Nether Abyss for centuries, seeking the entrance to the lost realm of Orobeus. They were searching for a lost artifact known as the Fist of the Father, an item said to have the power to absorb another beings divine essence. Eventually they found Orobeus, and used the artifact against Belegor to allow Belros to absorb his power, and he ascended as the new King of Hell and a Elder God. Yzgaroth was rewarded for his loyalty with lordship over the Seventh Layer of Hell, arisen as a Demonlord and named the Prince of the Damned.

During the Infernal Crusade Yzgaroth was granted the envied position of leading the demonic invasion of Earedar. Joined by Malpheus and later Baphomet and Belros Azul himself, their demonic hordes were locked in a titanic clash against the forces of both the Elder Races and The Light. Yzgaroth landed at the location now known as the Shattered Throne and called all true followers of The Shadow to his side. He founded the Felidar Imperium there, and waged his campaign against the peoples of Earedar. He laid waste to the Free Marches, and toppled the mighty Republic of Tyrn. He defeated Sidriel, Archangel of Mercy, many times in single combat, and almost slew him once in the Black Hills north of the Nightwood. Overseeing the entire conflict, it was only Malpheus' failing to conquer the High Kingdom of the Stonelands as well as the Second Vraekar Empire in the west that prevented his total victory. Yzgaroth and his forces were cast out of the Inner Realms after Celestine's Law as he was planning his journey across the Inner Sea to join Baphomet in laying siege to Ombria, his largest regret. Since the end of the Crusade Yzgaroth has served as the right hand of Belros, and is currently focused on not only managing the other Demonlords, but flushing out the followers of Diabolus.

Yzgaroth is uninterested in accumulating mortal followers, instead focusing on expanding his control over the demons and devils of the Seven Hells. Yzgaroth has taken Zalindra, Lady of Desire as his lover, bearing him the Sirens. She has oft lay outside of their union however, which has caused no small amount of discord between the two lovers.

Circle of Shadows- Most prominent within the Felidar Imperium, Yvren and other places where the Shadow holds sway, the Circle of Shadows is comprised of a cabal of warlocks, clerics, priests and other mages who draw upon the Shadow for their power. Fueled by raw ambition, members of the Circle are driven to accumulate as much power as possible, often at the expense of others, including their own members. They are often cruel and unforgiving, and can be found acting as priests amongst thsoe regions controlled by the forces of darkness. They venerate Belros Azul above all others as the pinnacle of their ideals.
