Blasted Wastes

Naming a region the “Blasted Wastes” evokes an image of dead landscapes teeming with fire and brimstone, and while that is certainly at least partly accurate, the thing that most often gets forgotten is the cold, emptiness that remains after the flames have wrought their destruction. Most of the open land which was once covered in prairies, forests, and farm fields is now coated in lifeless, gray ash. The much diminished population under the rule of the Red Dragon Curse, Anderion, now mostly lives high up in the mountains or underground. The barbaric ursarine range the slopes with kobolds tunnel and hide beneath the rock, waiting to spring forth and attack any they deem outsiders. The old dwarven settlements are shadows of their former grandeur, with Borestown essentially being given fully over to the kobolds and Old Coal standing as little more than a ghost town. Only Fierforge still houses a significant population of dvergen, living in the shadow of their fell master. Could this once beautiful and productive land be restored to its former glory, or is its damnation destined to spread further across the land?
