Akroni Confederacy
Akronis, the democratic capital of Diyu. Anyone can make a living, filled with good ideals and optimism. Alas, they quickly discover that the only way to "make it", so to say, is to stoop low. Bribery, threats, and outright murder are the primary currency of Akroni society, as the poor labour in farms and factories, and the rich work tirelessly to make themselves richer.
Structure
Akronis is a confederacy of client states, all of which have their own laws, regulations, and ways of doing things. That said, there is a reason they are united, at least in theory. Every member state sends a representative to each of Akronis' Houses of governance. One is sent to the War Council, one is sent to the Foreign Council and two are sent to the Civil Council. The ways each representative is appointed varies depending on the client state. The republics elect them, in the same manner, they elect their own leaders, while the monarchies and dictatorships have the government appoint them. These representatives go to their respective houses of government and vote on federal legislation, which supersedes any local laws. If the federal tax on alcohol is 5% of the original price, and two states have them at 4% and 7% respectively, the 7% tax will be left alone while the 4% tax will be superseded by the 5% tax. Thus, the central government maintains control. Political; Parties have formed, which tend to spread across every house of government, not stay in one.
The main method, aside from common party and the occasional overlapping legislation, that members from different houses of government will come into contact with each other is via the election of a Barar. The Barar is elected through a simple majority vote, with no special rules surrounding their enstatement. The Barar is usually a candidate put forward by party coalitions, as the only time a single party has gotten enough support to elect a Barar by themselves had been during extreme circumstances.
The elected members of the Akroni Government represent their constituent states, and the make-up of these vary. Akronis, for all its propaganda about being a confederacy that represents the common man, is an empire just as much as Laran, though significantly less expansionist. As such, there are a wide variation of kingdoms, dukedoms, counties, republics, theocracies, oligarchies, and every form of government known to sapient beings. These all have their own rules and laws, and they each get one vote. Due to odd succession laws, these members often separate, combine, or go through periods of reform. Regardless of their personal matters, so long as they stay loyal to Akronis and abide by its laws, their affairs are left to themselves.
Infighting among Akroni states is common, and full scale wars likened to civil wars are often waged, yet, unlike the Empire of Laran, these states know when to work together to kill a common enemy, mostly. A large plurality of Akronis' constituent states are republics of some sort. Most of the states, of any government type, are likened to city-states based on territory, power, and influence.

Culture
Akroni culture is extremely varied, as there are many different ethnicities and subcultures under its helm. However, a common attitude held by the Akroni populace is a hatred of slavery and Laran, and a long republican tradition. This leads to even the Akroni who swear fealty to authoritarian states having a great deal of respect for democratic values. Akroni are often stereotyped as being obsessed with rules and regulations due to the byzantine rules that make up the Akroni legal and judicial system.
History
Akronis was founded in the aftermath of Mul-Zamain's world wound, as Drow fled from the High Peaks of Zhattar to the Low Peaks of Zhatar. The new kingdoms and city-states founded were still fearful of continued Larani aggression, despite the empire's scrabble for power. As such a loose alliance was formed, effectively a defensive pact explicitly targetted against Laran. The Empire didn't take kindly to this and started using its vassal and puppet states to conquer and annex the to-be Akroni territory and kingdoms. More nearby city-states, notably a collection known as the Damatrikat Seven, a collection of seven oft warring Human city-states, requested to join, hoping for protection against the encroaching Larani. As word spread of the defensive alliance, more joined, and formal rules needed to be established. About 30 years after the initial alliance, in 87 YS, the Akorni confederacy was officially declared, with a new capital being constructed over the bones of a large dead humanoid. The new city, called Arlesciatre has become a cultural and trade center, easily the largest and most populated city in the world.
Demography and Population
Akronis is extremely diverse with populations of every sort fluctuating constantly. As such it is impossible to categorize and number them.
Military
Akronis' military is one of its more centralized aspects. The House of War is made up fo the various generals, known as Warlords, who each run their own armies. They usually guard certain sections of the Confederacy and recruit from their client states. Many members sponsor certain warlords, and warlord dynasties have become a mainstay in Akroni politics.
Technological Level
Akronis is on the cusp of an industrial age, with technologies such as the arquebus slowly being made available. Most of this is driven by the artificers of the Arkonaut Corporation, who have a complete monopoly on airships and any technology that passes rudimentary machinery. Most of Akronis is stuck between a Dark Age feudal environment and a mid-renaissance inventive period.
Religion
Most in Akronis follow one of the various Star Cults, based from the Holy City Arakos, which in itself is a small city-state within the Confederacy. It is exempt from most of Akronis' rules however, due to its holy status.
Foreign Relations
Akronis is always trying to absorb more kingdoms and states into the Confederacy, though it is more tactful than the Empire of Laran. With the aforementioned Empire, the two have been rivals since Akronis' rise, and have been in a state of Cold War since their 3 century long war ended.
Agriculture & Industry
Akronis is begining to industrialize, as large cities such as Arlesciatre have some factories with rudimentary machinery and assembly lines going. However most things are still done in a medeival fashion.
Trade & Transport
Most trade is internal, as the Akroni member states cover such a wide breadth of land and resources that they have too export little besides luxuries. They export many resources to everyone but the Empire of Laran.
Infrastructure
Akronis maintains major cities and the route between them, largely leaving the small and less profitable states unattended. This is due to bribery by the wealthy to keep themselves wealthy.

Currency
Currency differs across the different member states, so a few standards have been established. 1 gram of gold is the same as 10 of silver, and 1 gram of silver is worth 5 grams of copper. One state may mint a different coin with different weights than another, but so long as the materials are pure, it remains valid throughout the Confederacy.
Legislative Body
Laws that govern common areas, land and locations owned by the Confederacy as a whole rather than individual states, the Civil Houses Laws act as the only legislation.
Judicial Body
Within areas designated as COnfederacy controlled, judges appointed by the civil house of government preside over court cases, in which a jury of eleven random civilians will make the final judgment. The Civil House also appoints a Supreme Court, which oversees important cases, and some that are raised to that level due to appeals of mistrial.
Many people flee from one member state to another after being convicted of a crime, and unless the two in question have some sort of alliance, it renders them effectively immune to consequences. As such, while Bounty Hunting was a lucrative business before Akronis' rise, it was supershot into prominence afterward, as many governments regularly hire hunters to capture those who flee to other states.

Executive Body
Akronis uses Bounty Hunters and its own military to enforce laws. This is common across both the Confederacy and the member states.

Cold War
They ended a three-century-long war about two decades ago, and have been in a period of cold war since. They fund rebels and extremist factions within the other's territory, spread their ideologies and religions, and try their best to kill each other without being the one to land the blow.
