The term the Long War was first used by a Drow orator named Dvar, spreading to the Akroni Houses of Government in 859, the Akroni populace in 860, and to the Lati in 874.

The term the "Long War" was first used by the orator Dvar, a Drow living on the streets of Arlesciatre who would occasionally give philosophical or political rants at the requests of patrons who would in turn pay him with food and shelter for the day. Despite his economic situation, he was considered quite well-informed on current politics, some theorizing he had a relative in the Akroni Houses, and even one in Laran.

Regardless of where he got his information, he was quite knowledgeable and influential. His reference to the "Long War" rather than its official title within Akronis--the war for the liberation of the Aphes Valley--spread to several warlords in the War Council, and within a year had become common phrasing within the city. Official legislation allocating more funding to the war effort was entitled "The Granting of Funds to Aid in the Efforts of Akroni Warlords in the Long War" was the first official usage, coming in 859.

The publishing of that law made it common vocabulary across the Confederacy, and through Larani spies, came to the empire. It remained a fringe term there until the Okosovai of Intelligence began using it, and in standard Lati fashion, the need to emulate those in power spread it to the rest of the aristocracy by 874.
