Battle of Korin Field

Military: Battle

657YS
39/9

The Battle of Korin Field saw the death of the reigning Imperator Mecogt Kana, and the advancement of Akroni forces into the Plain of the Holy Sepulchre. Notable figures to come out of the battle are the Burning Knight and the Wych Hunter Corryn Draes.

The Battle of Korin Field was an all-out slaughter. The larger Larani army was caught by steppe nomad mercenaries working for the Akroni in the middle of reorganization. Larani scouts were completely wrong about the expected arrival of the army, giving them hours when the Lati command thought they had at least a day.

The Steppe Riders showered the Larani in arrows wherever they formed up, dying to a concentrated blast of fire from a few Lati lords, but by that point, the Akroni army had appeared. Fully in cohesion, mostly rested, and with centralized command, it was an all-out route.

Most of the peasant levies brought by the Larani melted on first contact with the enemy. A corp of Wych Hunters provided some interference with Lati battlefield dominance, enough to erode their supports and mob them in enemies. The Larani Legions fared the best, keeping in defensive formation, shielding much of the Larani support train.

After Mecogt Kana's death in a battle with the Ir In Zer who came to be known as Hatred-The Burning Knight, the various Lati command present pulled back. Most of the Legions managed to escape, due to an organized retreat that sacrificed many of the levies still fighting. The footmen that could escape did so shielding the parts of the supply chain that hadn't pulled out already.

Overall, the Battle of Korin Field marked a major victory fo the Akroni, centering much of the conflict in the Overlands on the Larani border territory of the Plain of the Holy Sepulchre. It saw the death of Mecogt Kana, plunging the Empire of Laran into another succession crisis as the various Lati who escaped jockeyed for the seat.

It also made several names famous in both Akronis and Laran. The aforementioned Burning Knight became a major propaganda figure in Arlesciatre, despite their not technically being aligned with Akronis. The Wych Hunter Corryn Draes, managed to slay two Lati and command a regiment. He and his regiment would receive several honours after the battle's conclusion. The Lati Ocha Dar managed to escape with the heads of several Wych Hunters and no casualties in his Legion of 5 Cohorts. It would be renamed Fist of the Silent King in her honour, and would carry her to the seat of Imperator a year later.
