Derkomai

The Laws of Derkomai

As discussed earlier, Derkomai is a technology-limited world, with no electricity, no explosives, and no advanced materials. Wood, stone, basic metals (copper, tin, iron, gold, silver, bronze, etc.), and natural materials produced from trees, plants, and animals are all that are available to manufacture goods. Steel is known and produced, but fairly rare, and very expensive.   There is magic in Derkomai, but it is not particularly common, especially powerful magic. Some people can do basic spells, making light, curing small wounds quickly, and so on. Mages with significant power are rare, but there are some. They tend to be distrusted by common people. There are rumors and legends that there are many more mages amongst the Elvirim, but since interactions with them are not common, the truth of those rumors and legends is not certain.

Cosmology

Derkomai came about like any other planet in the universe, but that process is still not completely understood, since the process of how the universe came to be is not completely understood. Several theories have been proposed, all of which have some recognized inadequacies.   The legends of Elvirim say that Derkomai was spoken into existence by the Being, Eia’au, the head of the Safirim, who are the leaders of the Nop Derk Safir.

Principal Geography & Features

Derkoma is earth-like. See the Derkomai home page for a more complete description.

Initial Active Setting

Player characters will typically start their adventures in a small village outside the city of Sudminto in Sudland. From there, they can travel into Sudminto, then to areas surrounding Sudminto, then to Daskar or travel to places further away. Long-distance travel by players should require significant resources that are difficult and expensive to obtain, and it should take them a long time to travel significant distances, just as it did in Earth's past. The intent is that Derkomai should feel big and complex, and players should have limited or no information beyond their local region, and they should gain knowledge of the broader world as they travel and grow.   Players could also start in other areas of Derkomai. It depends on what kind of adventures/campaign the DM/GM would like to run.
